Job Description:

A registered professional nurse that functions in a specialty practice using the standards of nursing care as a foundation. Forensic nursing is a unique specialty that blends the worlds of nursing, science, and the legal system. The forensic nurse primarily gives care to patients affected by violence and trauma and is able to interact with agencies that respond to these patients. In addition to providing a complete medical forensic exam, they are trained to collect evidence maintaining chain of custody, and provide expert testimony in court. Also directs and guides the activities of other personnel while maintaining standards of professional nursing. Must be able to provide the care needed as described in the department’s policies and procedures.


We currently have a PRN Registered Nurse (RN) position open in our SANE Department. The Registered Nurse is accountable for the coordination of direct patient care, education, and serves as a leader of the patient care team. The RN will work closely with an interdisciplinary team to deliver high quality patient care.

Requirements



  • Must be an RN licensed in the Commonwealth of Virginia

  • Minimum 2 years of clinical experience as an RN – emergency nursing or forensic nursing a plus but not required

  • Must have a strong desire to work with a high-risk and complex patient population

  • Must have desire to be a member of a dynamic team of professionals devoted to the care of patients in our community

  • Must have solid critical thinking skills and a strong application of the nursing process

  • Ability to work autonomously after completion of training – 40-60 hour classroom work and clinical components

  • Minimum 36 hours of call time per month after training

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Effective time management skills
