We are currently looking for Apprentices to join the Wagner Team. Wagner Equipment Co selects students to participate in the Apprenticeship program, this is a 2 year program, students attend Central New Mexico Community College, receiving a certificate in Diesel Technology, while gaining hands on experience on the shop floor. In the second year, students have exclusive access to Wagner Training Institute, getting Caterpillar specific training.

Pay: $18.00 per hour
Pay rate is dependent on education and experience & employee benefits will be discussed upon hire.

Essential Functions:

  • Services and maintains equipment sold and/or owned by the company

  • Diagnoses and troubleshoots machine and engine malfunctions and failures

  • Prepares, inspects, and operates machines prior to delivery

  • Removes, disassembles, assembles, and installs components and parts

  • Cleans, repairs, reconditions, and maintains equipment and component

  • Makes recommendations as to repairs meeting warranty criteria

  • Makes parts replacement decisions assuring optimum economic reusability

  • Determines reusability of parts in accordance with published Caterpillar reusability guidelines

  • Orders replacement parts ensuring that parts orders are correct and complete at the time of order

  • Correctly charges work to appropriate work order segments

  • Communicates effectively with Apprentice Coordinator, Service Writer, Shop Coordinators and Shop Managers to ensure problems, nature of repair, and status of repairs are understood and followed up on

  • Prepares inspection, appraisal, and service reports in a timely manner

  • Uses safe working practices and follows all company safety requirements

  • All other duties as assigned by  manager


Required Education and Experience:



  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Mechanical Aptitude


Strongly Preferred:



  • An automotive or diesel course in High School

  • Experience as a entry level technician

  • 1-3 years administrative/clerical experience

  • 1-3 years customer service experience


Competencies:



  • Reading, writing, reasoning, organizational, communication and math skills

  • Safety Knowledge


Work Environment:




  • Noise: Loud, Environment: Indoors/Outdoors


    • Specific Risks: Works with moving, mechanical parts; may work in high places and be exposed to equipment vibration and fumes




Physical Requirements:



  • Standing, walking, talking, sitting, use of hands, and hearing

  • Heavy work that includes lifting and/or moving objects up to 96 pounds or more
