Enterprise Data Architect at Hearst Communications Inc.

Job Description:

This position is responsible for the design, development, integration and maintenance of the enterprise data warehouse and operational database systems.  The Enterprise Data Architect is a strong technical lead that helps drive the overall architecture and designs of our data stores to ensure data quality, reportability and optimal performance.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


  • Works with data analysts and other business users in order to identify reporting requirements.

  • Designs and implements database models/enhancements as well as ETL/ELT procedures to integrate needed data into existing dimensional data warehouse.

  • Works with DevOps team for the provisioning, monitoring and upgrading of hardware (virtual) / software for DBMS and related tools.

  • Develops and documents data model standards and best practices, including forming relevant training materials.

  • Performs analysis, optimization, tuning, and capacity planning of DBMS and related tools.

  • Responsible for HA and DR of production DBMS.

  • Implements data retention and masking policies.

  • Evaluates new tools/platforms for suitability in meeting business and technical requirements.

  • On-Call support for ETL and critical DBMS issues.

  • Provide career development, coaching and performance management for ELT Analysts.

  • Works in a Scrum environment using agile techniques to complete roadmap projects.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:


  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent work experience.

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar role.

  • Experience with cloud (AWS or Azure) DBaaS platforms.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:


  • Extensive ELT/ETL relational/dimensional data modeling and SQL skills.

  • Data visualization and reporting platform management.

  • Microsoft SQL Server management and development (T-SQL, SSIS).

  • Management of one or more of the following database management systems:

    • Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL



  • Microsoft Windows scripting and scheduling.

  • Linux experience (bash scripting, basic administration).

  • Proven leadership capabilities.

  • Strong verbal and written communications skills.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
