NOTE: Position is available immediately
Purpose: The purpose of this position is to ensure that R&D NDP projects, plant technical support, CVD lab equipment and experiments, and plant trials are supported from an engineering perspective to achieve the objectives of the Thin Films Technology department and the R&D group.
Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
People management:
Manage the development of R&D Engineers to ensure the right balance of personnel and skills to meet project and customer requirements with view to support below objectives.
Ensure safety practices and procedures are followed as needed including PFMEAs, risk assessments, root cause analyses, and M.O.Cs.
R&D Projects:
Work with R&D project managers and engineers to plan and execute coating trials for On-Line Coating projects.
Includes design, construction, and operation of R&D chemical delivery systems for coating trials.
Work with plant personnel to modify and/or install chemical delivery systems and coaters for plant trials.
Serve as Project Manager of NSG NDP Manufacturing Improvement and Development Projects as requested.
Technical Support to Coating Operations
Support manufacturing plants during production campaigns of new on-line coated products.
Train plant personnel on procedures for manufacturing new coated products and manufacturing improvements.
Assist manufacturing plants with coating equipment issues, coater rebuilds, process problems, defect identification and abatement, etc.
Northwood CVD Laboratory:
Support R&D Engineers in efforts to design, procure, and modify equipment for CVD lab, including efforts to supervise construction and installation of new equipment.
Support R&D Engineers and technicians in efforts to carry out experiments as required by project managers.
Implement Statistical Methods:
Use statistical software (JMP) to evaluate process capability and sources of variation in new or critical on-line coated products.
Encourage use and understanding of statistical software (JMP).
Drive team members to use statistical methods for data analysis including Design of Experiments methodology, process capability, SPC, t-tests, etc.

Qualifications Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science or similar technical degree.
5 or more years of experience in float glass production, glass coating, or glass processing (bending, tempering, etc.)
Departmental or supervisory experience
Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot chemical and mechanical issues related to chemical delivery systems.
Must be a creative, curious, innovative, self-starter.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).
Ability to travel estimated at 20 – 30%
Qualifications Desired:
3 or more years of experience with thin film coating processes, e.g. on-line CVD, sputtering, sol-gel.
Green Belt or Black Belt training.
Project Management experience.
Experience with statistical analysis techniques.
