Position Overview

CRH Americas Materials is currently recruiting for the position of a Technical Writer Intern within the Information Technology team. The successful intern candidate will be responsible for supporting the Point of Sale Application Team. The IT Technical Writer will be responsible for the creation of written information about CRH's computing systems that aid in their development, use, and support. Outputs should consist of a range of documents and standards including SOP's and Knowledgebase articles to be read by both technical and non-technical personnel across all departments.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)


  • Research, evaluate, and recommend new documentation tools and methods in support of documentation improvement efforts.

  • Collaborate with business representatives, subject matter experts, and IT staff to collect and interpret technical information.

  • Ensure final documents are usable and of high quality.

  • Plan, design, research, write, and edit a range of documents, including user guides and manuals, technical specifications, training materials, user policies, and proposals, for both print and online media.

  • Review, edit and/or incorporate existing documentation where available to create unified and consistent documentation.

  • Establish, communicate, and maintain documentation standards.

  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge/Skill Requirements


  • Highly self-motivated and directed

  • Knowledge of information gathering, planning, and organizing methods and principles.

  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.

  • Superior attention to detail.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with a focus on rapport-building, listening, and interviewing skills

  • Technical writing and editing experience, with specific experience in documenting information technology software and systems is preferred.

Qualifications

Education/Experience


  • Pursuing a Bachelors/Master's degree in English, Communications, Engineering or Journalism.

  • Experience with desktop publishing tools, including Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office Suite - including Microsoft Visio, snipping tools, understanding of OneDrive and SharePoint. Any video/sound-editing a plus.

  • Experience working with ITSM Tool (ServiceNow), specifically following the knowledge management process is preferred.

Certifications

  • Certification in ITIL is preferred but not required

  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and mouse.
