Job Description:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 


Other duties may be assigned.


Abide by, enforce, and participate in the implementation and ongoing oversight of all company safety standards and regulations.


Discard or reject products, materials, or equipment not meeting specifications.


Inspect, test, or measure materials, products, installations, or work for conformance to specifications.


Notify supervisors and other personnel of production problems and assist in identifying and correcting these problems.


Record inspection or test data, such as weights, temperatures, grades, or moisture content, and quantities inspected or graded.


Mark items with details such as grade or acceptance-rejection status.


Measure dimensions of products to verify conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as rulers, calipers, gauges, or micrometers.


Analyze test data, making computations as necessary, to determine test results.


Maintain a clean, safe, and efficient work area.


Qualifications:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or over three months up to and including 6 months of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.


Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.


Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations


To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of:


Automated Fiber Information System (AFIS), Office Suite software.

This job requires the ability to see details of objects at a close range (within a few feet of the observer); through normal or corrected vision to match or detect differences between colors, textures, patterns, including shades of color and brightness; identify or detect a known pattern (a figure, object, word, or sound) that is hidden in other distracting material; and  quickly and accurately compare letters, numbers, objects, pictures, or patterns. The things to be compared may be presented at the same time or one after the other. This ability also includes comparing a presented object with a remembered object.

The noise level in the work environment is generally mild to moderate where the hum of operating laboratory equipment and activities of co-workers can be pervasive.  Occasional exposure to loud noise is to be expected when required to gather samples or conduct tests/analysis in the production area while manufacturing equipment is in operation.


This job will be performed under the environmental factors given below:


The primary work location for this job is the laboratory area.  Occasionally, the associate may be required to perform work activities on the production floor or warehouse where it is not climate-controlled, there is operating industrial equipment, and possible exposure to loud noise, airborne particles, and caustic chemicals.  Walking to and from production areas is required to get samples and/or test materials in-process.


The work environment characteristics described above necessitates the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses/goggles, gloves, closed shoes, and other protective equipment as specified by OSHA and other federal/state regulations.  The associate must wear the prescribed personal protective equipment at all times while performing the duties of this job.  Additional Personal Protective Equipment such as respirator, hard hat, hearing protection and other protective equipment may be required when performing work in areas with specified PPE.
