Position Summary


The Sr Architect - Optical is responsible for the network architecture, policy and the strategic planning of Crown Castle Fiber’s optical network.   Responsible for the long-term vision interfacing with trigger organizations to determine need and pro-actively scope using their understanding of the current network and available technologies.  This position analyzes, evaluates, lab tests, and recommends new equipment, protocols, methods and procedures to achieve the tactical and strategic optical vision for the network and products. 


 


Essential Job Functions



  • Perform holistic technical, feature, functionality, & financial evaluation of new equipment

  • Develop and maintain up to 3 year strategic plan for each technology track within Network Infrastructure

  • Prepare the documents against which purchases, implementation, contracts, and other financial commitments will be made regarding the purchase of equipment, software or services

  • Perform testing and interoperability testing for new hardware, software releases and services in a lab environment. Document findings and create methods and procedures for implementation.

  • Develop and deploy methodologies for projecting network and systems capacity needs to ensure Network readiness to meet business needs

  • Develop and maintain an optical access strategy for delivery of our products

  • Provide technical support for internal organizations to include Engineering, Operations and Sales.

  • Assist in providing cost and technical solutions for non-standard or complex customer orders.

  • Work with other team members and groups to develop scalable network designs, solutions and policy recommendations

  • RFP/RFI submission and management

  • Manage regular vendor visits for road map discussions

  • Manage, organize and prioritize multiple projects. The role will perform in a team-based environment, but must be self-motivated, focused on attention to detail, and able to self-manage a project

  • Provide network planning and engineering support for a large complex growing infrastructure.

  • Support the development of technical solutions to complex problems that require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity


 


Education/Certifications



  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering / Electrical, Computer Science, Telecommunications or equivalent experience


 


Experience/Minimum Requirements



  • 7+ years of telecommunications experience working for or with service provider networks

  • Must have expert level knowledge of Nortel/Ciena (to include 5200,6500 and T-Series platforms), Infinera (DTN/DTN-X) and Cisco (NCS and 15454) platforms.

  • Familiarity with other optical vendors such as ADVA and Nokia preferred 

  • Familiarity with Juniper and Cisco routers preferred


 


Other Skills/Abilities



  • Capable of conducting complex systems integration and testing

  • Experienced technical writing skills sufficient to produce white papers, test cases, test plans, design documents, and technical diagrams

  • Strong planning and organizational skills

Working Conditions: This role falls into our hybrid work model working in your assigned office approximately 60% of the time (3 days per week) and where you do your best work 40% (2 days per week).  There is an expectation of collaboration with teammates and stakeholders for moments that matter that could require travel.
