Role Summary:



Dexcom's legal team is growing and we are looking for a Director of legal operations who will establish and manage the business strategy and operational processes for the legal department. As the Director of legal operations, you will be responsible for duties related to change management, technology and process decisions, and budget allocation. This role will report to our Chief Legal Officer.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • • Establish and manage legal operations strategy for the legal team and key results

  • • Implement and manage legal team metrics, benchmarking, and reporting

  • • Drive selection and management of legal solutions providers to optimize efficiency and quality

  • • Work with legal team to develop metrics for measurement of outside counsel where appropriate

  • • Streamline and automate processes to improve legal team efficiency

  • • Manage development and improvement of contracting and other legal processes

  • • Optimize contract lifecycle management solutions

  • • Develop and support programs that promote collaboration and knowledge sharing across the team

  • • Develop self-serve legal resources, workflows and tools for the business to access legal support quickly and efficiently

  • • Work closely with Chief Legal Officer to select outside law firms and negotiate alternative fee arrangements and billing guidelines




Required Qualifications/Education:



  • • At least 7 years of legal operations related experience, building or managing legal operational programs, projects, and processes

  • • Ability to think strategically while managing the details, creatively solve problems, and to make clear recommendations

  • • Strong organizational, project management, and execution skills

  • • Understanding of the contracting process and experience with contract lifecycle management

  • • Commitment to teamwork, integrity, and collegiality

  • • Excellent decision-making ability and ability to work independently with minimal supervision





Functional Description




Manages administrative and other support functions for the legal organization. Directs and supervises the work of agents, paralegals and non-attorney operations staff supporting contract, intellectual property, litigation, compliance and other activities of the corporate legal function. Advises management of contractual rights and obligations and provides interpretation of terms and conditions. Develops operational policies and procedures for tracking, maintaining and updating legal documentation and records. Selects, develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function.

  • Participates in corporate development of methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for projects, programs, and people.

  • Erroneous decisions will have a serious impact on the overall success of functional or company operations.

  • Manages the activities of a functional area and/or external service providers.

  • People management responsibilities include hiring / terminations, performance reviews, career development coaching and compensation decisions.

Experience and Education






  • Typically requires a Bachelors degree with 15+ years of industry experience.

  • 9+ years of successful management experience in relevant industry.





Workplace Type






  • The Workplace Type for this role is Assigned Desk. Based on the nature of your role you will have an assigned desk or office located at a Dexcom site and should plan to be onsite approximately 4-5 days per week.
