POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the 2nd Shift Production Supervisor supervises and co-ordinates personnel and equipment by planning workload and providing instructions and procedures required by the workforce to meet customer requirements for Quality products delivered On Time.  Ensures effective use of both human and equipment capital in all areas of the operation to ensure we remain competitive in our market segment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Provide leadership in the maintaining of Samuel Policies and Values throughout SMP.

  • Ensures priorities of Safety, Quality and Productivity are maintained at the forefront of all activities performed at SMP. 

  • Manage employees by instructing, training, organizing and monitoring the daily activities associated with operations to assure the accurate and efficient processing of orders. 

  • Provide employees with performance evaluation through coaching to improve and acknowledging success.  This includes yearly written performance evaluation to provide guidance in performance against our company standards.  It also includes evaluation of Probationary employees to ensure they are a good fit with our ‘plant culture’ before being offered full time employment.

  • Ensure employee qualifications and ability are at the proper level to be successful in their assigned tasks and minimize exposure to quality or delivery issues due to lack of skills. 

  • Ensure conformance to Safety, Quality and Productivity standards through use of daily auditing and communication with employees.

  • Ensure Daily Machine Schedule is sequenced properly in the system and BL’s (Work Orders) are at the processing lines to cover their shift.  Make required adjustment to schedule sequence when priorities are changed by the customer or equipment breakdown.

  • Effective use of manpower to cover activities such as rework, plant and equipment maintenance as required.

  • Review completed BL’s (Work Orders) ensuring accuracy in time reporting and costing.

  • Work with other departments to minimize downtime and efficiently use resources when equipment or tooling issues arise.

  • Support Continuous Improvement initiatives by collecting information from employees and ensuring they are forwarded to the C.I. Team for evaluation.

  • Conduct monthly Safety Talk meetings with assigned shift employees.

  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.

  • Complies with the designated ISO/TS16949:2009 responsibilities, environmental management system, health & safety and company rules and guidelines.

  • Ensures company safety policies are adhered to and safe work habits are utilized by all department personnel and visitors.  Wears personal protective equipment (PPE) as required at all times

  • Maintains a high standard of general housekeeping consistent with 5S standards

  • Strives for continuous improvement

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Requires a High School diploma with preference given to individual with a post-secondary diploma in Technical field related to Manufacturing or Press Shop operations. 

  • 5-8 years’ experience in Supervision required in a non-union environment with working knowledge of 5S, Lean Manufacturing, Continuous improvement and Six Sigma principles.
