AVP, Home Office Casualty Underwriter- Commercial Insurance at Chubb

The role will report to the Casualty Portfolio & Risk Leader and the candidate should be willing to travel up to 25% of the time.  Ideally, the candidate will be located with daily access to Whitehouse Station, NJ, but a remote working arrangement is acceptable. However, the candidate must demonstrate they can meet the job requirements with a remote arrangement and must also travel to Whitehouse Station, NJ monthly.   

JOB SUMMARY:


  • Responsible for driving all financial metrics relating to the General Liability and Umbrella Lines of Business

  • Key focus on working with the field, Executive Field Underwriters, Industry Practices and other Line of Business managers to drive profitable growth

  • Key contact for field and TUMs on complex referrals and emerging hazards

  • Work closely with actuarial on pricing, pricing tools, rate adequacy, and new business metrics versus renewal

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:                                                                                                                                           


  • Collaborates with other Line of Business Managers, Industry Practices, Risk Engineering, Actuarial, General Counsel, Claims and Territory Underwriting Managers

  • Partners with underwriters on issues affecting the GL and Umbrella portfolio to set strategy and develop underwriting guidelines.

  • Referral resource for General Liability and Umbrella, focuses on complex risk, manuscript language and emerging hazards.

  • Pricing development including analysis of portfolio profitability and dislocation analysis.

  • Represents CI Casualty Practice in assigned projects, i.e. underwriting tools, training, field communication and marketing.

  • Requires collaboration with Product Services, Branch Services, IT, Learning Services and CI Marketing.

  • Develops and delivers technical training via on-site and virtual modules.

  • Assists with GL/Umbrella portfolio management including large loss oversight and development of underwriting tools.   

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:


  • 7-10 years of strong underwriting acumen and demonstrated technical expertise in handling complex GL and Umbrella exposures and ancillary coverages. 

  • International underwriting capabilities, advanced products, experience with Customarq and excess umbrella desired.   

  • Strong research and analytical skills – role requires acquisition of expertise on emerging risk and technologies.

  • Strong business acumen and knowledge of commercial underwriting and insurance industry theories and practices.

  • 4 year college degree preferred; professional designations such as CIC and CPCU highly desirable.

  • Candidates should possess strong leadership, collaboration and influence management skills

  • Strong interpersonal, analytical and negotiation skills and the ability to effectively interact with all levels of internal and external business partners

  • A strong understanding of pricing and pricing tools and the ability to multi-task and balance multiple priorities

  • Candidates must demonstrate advanced proficiency for pay band 30 competencies including a track record of results achievement, customer development, collaboration, teamwork, problem solving, and communication (written and verbal).
