Position
Summary:
The Director, Strategic Planning Medical Affairs (MA) is
accountable for leading and delivering US and global project management activities
for the oncology portfolio to cross-functional teams in the successful delivery
of Medical Affairs programs, projects and initiatives. This function also
closely collaborates with commercial to ensure aligned global and US brand
plans, as well as development to ensure medical affairs input in development
plans. Responsibilities include collaboration across MA, aligning the
development and proper execution of Medical Affairs plans for all products,
ensure that the Medical Affairs budgets (US and Global) are developed and
managed in line with organizational strategic priorities. This has to be executed with the
understanding of the larger program portfolio to prioritize resource (people,
money, time). Drives proactive thinking
and provides insightful analytics to make recommendations to leadership. Proactively identifies and shares relevant
best practices to improve project delivery and team capabilities. Identifies and actively pursues new and
innovative ways to support Medical Affairs and ensure seamless implementation
of this new innovation.
Responsibilities and
Duties:
Budget: Ensure Medical Affairs US and Global budgets are
developed across product lines and managed according to organizational
expectation. Perform quarterly analysis of the financial data against the
operating plan. Responsible for development and presentation of options to
resolve potential budget issues including critical trade-off discussions.
Partner with Finance to ensure the US/Global budgets, monthly projections, accruals,
and variance analysis are on track.
Evaluate budget input and phasing for the reallocation of funds.
Medical Plans:
Support Medical Affairs Product Teams in drafting, implementation, maintenance
and execution of annual global Medical Affairs plans. Manage dependencies/issues/risks within and
across these plans.
Tools: Develop
and evolve the standard of excellence in planning and project management
oversight of all assigned MA activities, as well as project management
methodologies, tools, and competencies.
Program and
Project Management: Manages functional and cross-functional project teams to
deliver successful projects and product launches. Responsible for setting and managing
expectations, highlighting and resolving issues, ensuring regular communications
and managing internal and external activities. Liaise between Medical Affairs
stakeholders and other solution providers, including internal and external
vendors. Proactively manages risks to
project delivery and the business.
Vendor Support:
Validate projects against Statements of Work (SOW), contracts, and supporting
documents to ensure funding levels, due dates, contract compliance and
authorizations are adhered to.
Perform regular
gap analysis activities to identify barriers to success, prepare roadmap to
close the gap and implement appropriate solutions as agreed upon.
Work with the
leadership team to identify and build out the Global Medical Affairs function
including Operations.
Develop and
execute strategies focused on Project Management, process improvements, system
enhancements, industry benchmarking, and organizational learning to reduce
governance time and enhance operational efficiency.
Provide a consistent, sustainable approach for strategic
launch planning across multiple geographies.
Educational
Requirements:
BA required, Terminal D degree (e.g., PhD, PharmD, or MD)
preferred
Experience:
A minimum of 5 years
of experience in within a pharmaceutical or healthcare organization.
Minimum of 3
years in project management function
Oncology experience preferred
A strong
knowledge of clinical development/operations, research conduct, and working
knowledge of Food & Drug Administration (FDA) requirements required
A strong
knowledge and demonstrated ability to conduct Clinical and Evidence-based Value
discussions with key decision makers and organized systems of care
A thorough
understanding of population health, Real world data analytics, HEOR and
decision-making process across various account channels required
Advanced, in-depth understanding of US healthcare system,
payers, reimbursement method, integrated health systems and utilization of RWE
and data analytics
Must be able to travel domestically and internationally on a
reasonably frequent basis (approx. 30% of time including air travel, some
weekend and overnight travel).
