Overview / Responsibilities


Wood is seeking an experienced Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator (WTPO) to join our Mid Atlantic Operations Team in our Hamilton, New Jersey or Blue Bell, Pennsylvania offices. Our Mid Atlantic Operations is a multi-disciplinary environmental, science, and engineering team of 200+ staff, based in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.


This is a full-time position with responsibility for operating and maintaining a wastewater treatment plant as part of an operations team. The WTPO will be responsible for maintaining the treatment system, tracking system performance, making recommendations for system improvements and completing DMR reports. The WTPO includes equalization, primary solids removal, pH adjustment, coagulant aid addition, metals precipitation, carbon filtration, ion exchange media filtrations, and sludge processing, etc.

Key Responsibilities/Daily Work:


  • Provides operation, maintenance, and administration of the plant

  • Monitors gauges, meters, and control panels and interprets readings and takes appropriate action for proper operation

  • Maintains operating logs

  • Operates valves and gates; starts and stops pumps, motors, and equipment as necessary to control and adjust flows and processes as required

  • As necessary, performs functions of laboratory technician

  • Responsible for plant housekeeping and for following safety rules and regulations in day-to-day activities

  • Perform related tasks as required




Skills / Qualifications


Skills/Required Qualifications:


  • Must have a NJDEP N-2 or N-3 Industrial Wastewater license, strong familiarization of automated plant process control and operations

  • Prefer 5 years related field and operations experience

  • Candidates must be reliable, self-motivated and possess strong mechanical and problem solving skills

  • Must be familiar with NJDEP rules and regulations, recordkeeping procedures, and completion of monthly DMR submissions

  • 40 hour HAZWOPER training, strong electrical, and instrumentation skills preferred

  • Must have valid motor vehicle operator's license

  • Strong organizational skills and detail oriented

  • Ability to work independently

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel

  • Effective technical, written, and verbal communication skills



Physical Demands:


  • Ability to remain on feet for extended periods of time either stationary or walking

  • Field activities that may require working in unfavorable weather conditions, including heat and cold

  • Completion of annual or bi-annual employment physical, as required

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
