Bachelor's degree in a related field. Four years of experience in a related field required. Two years of managerial experience preferred. Extensive technical knowledge of current network protocols, operating systems(OS) and standards, including Windows, Mac OS, Crestron, Extron, or Polycom, Microsoft office, printers, multimedia systems and email applications is required. Certifications may be required by the department. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.
Supports audio/video systems and provides onsite support and coordination for College of Osteopathic Medicine (COM). Identifies problem areas in a timely and accurate fashion, and provides end-user training and assistance where required. Serves as the primary on-site IT@Sam point of contact at the COM.
Provides training and support to end-users and staff on processes as well as technical computer operation or other issues. Receives and responds to requests for audio/video support services from team members, faculty and/or staff. Oversees testing, maintenance, monitoring, and troubleshooting of audio/video systems. Assists in planning audio/video capital replacement plans. Performs on-site analysis, diagnosis, and resolution of complex audio/video issues and recommends corrective solutions as needed. Develops and ensures audio/video installations are compliant with the University Agricultural and Engineering (A&E) standards. Handles the incoming requests for hardware and software services and ensures the team Service Level Agreements (SLA) and Division-wide priorities are met. Installs, configures, tests, maintains, monitors, and troubleshoots all client workstation hardware, networked peripheral devices, networking hardware and software products, and multimedia hardware and software. Ensures asset management database is accurate for computer hardware on which the team works. Performs on-site audits and coaching on analysis, diagnosis, and resolution of semi-complex software issues. Recommends corrective solutions as needed. Supports and leads the development and implementation of new technology projects. Aids in development of business continuity and disaster recovery plans. Maintains current knowledge of plan executables and responds to crisis in accordance with business continuity and disaster recovery plans. Assists in developing operational budgets for the area. Schedules student employees and manages/coordinates IT@Sam COM work schedule in order to proactively identify and avoid coverage gaps, while enabling wage management to be flexible and efficient. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requires strong and well-honed interpersonal, relationship building, and customer service skills, in all modes of interaction with clients. Demonstrates strong written and oral communication skills, and an ability to present ideas and concepts in an easy to understand language, including technical manuals and procedural documentation. Requires well-rounded technical knowledge of the computers, operating systems, software, and networking that comprise the IT@Sam & SHSU IT environment. Requires a technical knowledge of networked and stand-alone PC software, deep understanding of Windows registry, file systems and networks. Must be able to read and understand technical manuals and procedural documentation. Must have experience with Desktop Management Tools such as System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM), Altiris or LANDesk. Has the ability to set priorities and procedures for accomplishing work based on previous experience and knowledge of organizational policies and procedures is necessary. Policy interpretation is limited to situations which have been previously defined and where parameters have been established. During emergencies, operational failures, and peak use periods, employee may be called in when off-shift to work and extended shift; special procedures sometimes required extended hours; some travel is required. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis throughout a normal workday. May require driving and operating a university vehicle; therefore, a valid Texas driver's license and acceptable driving record is required by the University's insurance carrier.
