Position Purpose:

The Assistant Director is responsible for the management and operations for all estate and trust administration activity, complex gifts, and other key operational functions for the Office of Planned Giving at Dartmouth Health and the Geisel School of Medicine. Reporting to the Director, Planned Giving, the Assistant Director will also advise frontline fundraising colleagues and leadership on stewardship and outreach to donors, executors and advisors. The Assistant Director will also manage a comprehensive marketing program to increase planned gifts to Dartmouth Health and the Geisel School of Medicine. In conjunction with the Director, the Assistant Director will develop strategy for and implement an annual calendar of print and digital appeals.


Required Qualifications - Education and Yrs Exp:

Bachelors plus 2-3 years' experience or equivalent combination of education and experience


Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

· Two + years of related professional experience in non-profit fundraising, with experience in planned giving or law preferred.
· Excellent project management skills, with proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, to set priorities, follow through on projects, and meet deadlines.· Accuracy and attention to detail.· Demonstrated planning, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
· Demonstrated project management experience.
· Strong writing and editing skills· Ability to both work independently and to interact and collaborate effectively with a wide range of individuals and groups.· Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications; experience working with a complex database, with Raiser's Edge experience preferred· Commitment to learning and professional development.· Good judgment, discretion, and ability to maintain confidentiality· Commitment to diversity and to serving the needs of a diverse community.


Preferred Qualifications:

· Knowledge of PG Calc planned giving software preferred; strong overall computer skills.
· Background in marketing, communications, or planned giving is desirable.

Operations


  • prepare, proof and execute gift calculations, bequest and trust language, and participate in planned gift discussions with frontline staff and advisors.

  • Draft and maintain suggested bequest language templates and planned gift agreements for frontline officers.

  • Serve as a secondary point of contact for establishing new life income gift arrangements, such as charitable gift annuities, pooled income funds, and charitable trusts.

Description:



Trust and Estate Administration


  • Manage a portfolio of active estates and trusts scheduled to make a distribution to the Geisel School of Medicine/Dartmouth Health over a 12-18-month cycle, as well as select donors and allied professionals.

  • Coordinate with attorneys, trust officers and estate executors to move estates through the probate, and distribution and settlement process in a timely manner

  • Manage related documentation and communication to health system staff, college staff, frontline officers, and faculty.

  • Oversee management of estate files and establish action plans for each open estate.

  • Attend regular office-wide meetings and regularly update and report on the active trust and estate pipeline. Carry out assigned action items or follow-up tasks in a timely manner.

  • Work closely with the Director, Planned Giving to recommend, improve, implement, and centralize all operational activity for the administration of trust and estate distributions and gifts of complex assets.

  • Serve as an advisor for Dartmouth Health member hospitals as they administer trust and estate distributions to their respective institutions.

Marketing and Communications


  • In concert with the Director, develops strategy and implements an annual calendar of planned giving appeals for the Geisel School of Medicine/Dartmouth Health

  • Works with Geisel School of Medicine/Dartmouth Health communications staff and outside vendors to oversee design, printing, production, and mailing of print and digital appeals in an accurate and timely fashion.

  • Coordinates multi-channel marketing campaigns that integrate electronic communications and direct mail appeals.

  • Monitors production schedules and project timelines.

  • Coordinates with Geisel School of Medicine/Dartmouth Health communications staff to ensure consistency with institutional messaging and branding. Monitors leadership messaging, institutional news, and stories, stays abreast of institutional initiatives.

  • Partners with outside vendors to analyze responses to appeals and ROI. Analyzes and summarizes data and reports this information to the Director on a regular basis, recommending changes in strategy as indicated by appeal results.

  • Collaborate with Dartmouth Health member hospitals to apply a planned giving marketing strategy to their respective programs.
