We are seeking a full-time Flight Controls Systems Engineer 1 for our headquarters in the greater Kansas City area. In this role, you will be responsible for designing and developing basic requirements and conducting bench and flight testing in support of development and certification of AFCS products.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions
Conducts bench and flight tests to ensure compliance with FAA rules and regulations
Develops basic system requirements for autopilot/flight director systems, including system performance, interfaces, architecture and algorithms
Analyzes and test existing systems to figure out where improvements can be made
Conducts frequency response of servos and systems
Participates in validation and verification testing in accordance with formal and informal test plans, including operation of system on bench to test functionality
May analyze flight test data to troubleshoot autopilot related problems or performance issues
Develops and conducts test plans, procedures, and results for bench and flight test validation in support of FAA certification
Maintains and communicate requirements, allocate requirements among subsystems, and assure compatibility among subsystems so that the product ultimately meets its final objectives
Identifies and resolves defects of basic scope using proper engineering tools and techniques
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
Sound educational background in classical control system theory and ability to apply principles of root locus, Bode and Nicols to flight controls systems design
Demonstrated knowledge of digital control system theory, sampling theory and digital filtering
Working knowledge of Matlab, Simulink, and Control System toolbox
Demonstrated software development understanding of C programming language
Desired Qualifications
Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5)
Experience in flight control design, including autopilots, flight directors, or stability augmentation systems
Experience and/or education with MatLab or Simulink design tools
