Job Description:

The Blight Authority of Memphis, Inc. (BAM) is seeking an Executive Director to oversee all aspects of the organization's operations and programs. The Executive Director is responsible for planning and directing the organization to carry out the mission, policies, philosophies, and goals of the Land Bank, while protecting the organization’s financial assets and ensuring compliance with board directives and funders.

The annual salary is commensurate with experience; expected to be in the range of $95,000-$108,000 with benefits to be negotiated.

    DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Functions


  • Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Corporation and employees. Responsible for staff hiring, firing, performance reviews as well as training and development.

  • Oversee all accounting functions including those necessary for auditing, budgeting, financial analysis, capital asset and property management, and payroll Board and BAM Land Bank policies and procedures, and all other applicable rules and guidelines.

  • Establish and maintain working relationships with government, community organizations, and agencies (private and public) to carry out the mission of BAM.

     

Program Leadership and Management


  • Oversee the process of acquiring, holding, and marketing blighted properties in order to promote the highest and best reuse for the benefit of neighborhoods, families and Memphis.

Communication and Marketing


  • Communicate the vision and value of the organization to all current and potential stakeholders in the public, private and nonprofit sectors.

  • Represent BAM at neighborhood, community, and regional levels.

     

Governance


  • Assist in the development of current and long-term organizational goals and objectives as well as policies and procedures for BAM operations.

  • Serve as staff to the Board of Directors, its officers, and its committees.

    Finance and Administration


  • Work with the Board of Directors to create and adopt an annual budget; prepare monthly budget reports.

  • Report to the BOD on organizational finances, achievements, and effectiveness

  • Manage all administrative functions, including office space, technology, etc.

  • Identify potential sources of new revenue to sustain the organization. Maintain and grow funder relationships, including regular grant requests and reports.

KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES

The ideal candidate will have the following Experience, Professional Knowledge, Skills, and Personal Attributes


  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Experience in organizational fiscal management.

  • Experience in program design, development, management, and evaluation.

  • Knowledge of best practices in blight eradication, property reuse, and land banks.

  • Experience and comfort working with a diverse set of stakeholders, including neighborhood residents, nonprofit leaders, government leaders, staff, and others.

  • Energetic and enthusiastic attitude to demonstrate interest in and commitment to neighborhood revitalization.

This is a full-time position.


  • A strong preference is given for a degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Community Development, Urban Planning, or a similar field.

  • Five years (5) of related experience; two years of specific experience managing real estate transactions and or tax foreclosure properties is highly desirable. Experience in a senior management or leadership position.

  • Access to an automobile with applicable insurance.

  • Successful completion of a background check.
