Operations Manager

The following position is open in Virgin Islands, Virgin Islands, U.S..

Manage, coordinate and provide strategic oversight for the operations of the Distillery, the CMS Plant and Processing, Barreling and Shipping (PBS), as well as related Power Management and Fuel Delivery systems.

Role Responsibilities


  • Distillery Operations Management

    • Production Planning - Ensure synchronized scheduling of fermentation and distillation activities to maximize available resources.
    • Delivery on Targets - Deliver rum production targets while meeting quality specifications for final product, on time and on budget, maximizing molasses efficiency in fermentation, optimizing energy consumption, and adhering to all policies and regulations.
    • Own and manage Operations budget to include forecasting and capital projects.
    • Molasses Management - organize and manage the daily delivery of molasses from the pier facility as well as molasses supply to meet distillery volume objectives.
    • Power Management & Fuel Delivery Systems - Ensure efficient operation of power and fuel systems utilizing appropriate fuel blends while maintaining smooth operation of generators & boilers.
    • Procurement - Coordination of molasses procurement & receipt, as well as all raw materials and supplies, to optimize cost and avoid production interruptions.
    • Procure fuel in a timely manner to meet budget and avoid production interruptions.

    • Maintenance Support - Work closely with the maintenance department to ensure all issues are identified, documented and necessary repairs or routine maintenance plans are executed timely with minimal disruption to production.
  • CMS Plant Operations Management

    • Production Planning - Synchronize CMS schedule to treat waste from the distillery in a timely fashion and avoid distillery production interruptions.
    • Delivery on Targets - Ensure CMS is produced at the target solid content and quality as well as ensure that all permit requirements are met.
    • Own and manage the CMS Plant budget to include forecasting and capital projects.
  • Processing, Barreling and Shipping Operations Management

    • Production Planning - Ensure all processing activities are scheduled and executed in a timely fashion in order to avoid distillery production interruptions and maximize customer service level.
    • Customer Service Level - Ensure all shipments are loaded on time to meet customer expectations.
  • People Management & Development

    • Collaborate with Operations Supervisory team to schedule manpower based on business needs and requirements.
    • Provide leadership, coaching and training of personnel; Prepare objectives, reviews, and salary recommendations for all operations' personnel using performance and the "how" behaviors.
    • Plan, strategize and develop team building initiatives to improve performance and increase overall efficiencies
    • Ensure performance management systems are utilized for all employees to lift performance, correct behaviors, and advance people agenda.
    • Evaluate skill level and performance of employees on a regular basis. Work with Supervisors and Human Resources to build strong development plans for team members to strengthen the team and advance team member careers.
    • Work with Human Resources to hire/onboard Operations personnel, build succession plan for workforce development and pipeline.
  • Continuous Improvement Initiatives

    • Collaborate with the EH&S and HR Departments to monitor the compliance requirements of operations.
    • Develop Root cause problem solving techniques to promote an effective and efficient organization.
    • Support and manage Operations projects to improve performance and increase overall efficiencies.
    • Support Initiatives to ensure Lean Manufacturing/5S -success
    • ISO System Sustainability
  • General

    • Provide daily on-the-floor operational support, guidance and problem-solving strategies and decisions.
  • General Responsibilities

    • Work in partnership with all other members of the Cruzan Leadership Team.
    • Own implementation of the facility's vision in the Operations Departments, promote company values, goals, and ways of working.
    • Align operations objectives to the overall objectives for the facility, strategic planning of all areas of Operations.
    • Interact positively with visitors to the Cruzan Rum Distillery including visitors to the tour program, corporate visitors, and VIPs.
    • Adheres to and promotes Health & Safety, Environmental, and Quality as one of the organization's business priorities. Oversees compliance to all regulatory and internal standards.
    • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Chemical, Electrical or Mechanical) and 10 years of manufacturing, operations management experience or
  • Associates degree or technical degree and 12 years manufacturing, operations management experience.
  • Minimum of ten years manufacturing operations management experience
  • Working knowledge of fermentation, distillation, feed recovery and boiler operation
  • Working knowledge of the principles and applications of Lean Manufacturing, ISO, OSHA and CBA's.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical one-lines, logic drawings, and technical manuals, financial and production reports.
  • Working knowledge of quantitative problem-solving and statistical process control methods
  • Strong computer skills to include spreadsheets, databases, word- processing and project software.
