Litigation Legal/Docketing Assistant

The Firm has an opening for a full-time Litigation Legal/Docketing Assistant in the Firm’s Indianapolis office. The Firm has developed an optional 3-2 hybrid work schedule where employees are expected to work from the Indianapolis office at least three days per week and may opt to work from home up to two days per week.

The Opportunity

The candidate will work under the supervision of the attorney(s) to whom he/she is assigned and will provide typical Litigation Legal services. Those services include preparing, retaining, and organizing correspondence, legal documents, agreements, pleadings, letters and electronic data. In addition, this candidate will provide Docketing Assistant services with a focus on timeliness and accuracy of docketing for Class Action (“CA”) cases, implementation of CA docketing policies and procedures, coordination of docketing activities with others along with calendaring all of the CA Practices Group court-related and internal deadlines into the Firm’s automated calendaring/database system and entry of case data into the Firm’s automated calendaring/database system; maintains docket filings for federal and state court cases. Experience with document management systems, electronic docketing software, and Microsoft Office is preferred. The candidate must be proficient in electronic court filings and be knowledgeable of multijurisdictional court procedures and rules. The candidate must have the ability to maintain positive contact with clients and other firm personnel and retain confidentiality of client and firm matters. Strong organizational and prioritization skills are also a must. Position responsibilities will require ability to efficiently and accurately operate personal computer utilizing Microsoft Word, Excel and Juris timekeeping software. Candidates should be motivated and accountable, with excellent communication skills, good organizational and time management skills, as well as be a team player.

Essential Job Duties


  • At least 4 years of related work experience.

  • Experience with federal and state litigation, and docketing rules and/or regulations.

  • Familiarity with class action law helpful.

  • Proficiency in electronic court filings.

  • Knowledge of litigation docketing/calendaring software preferred.

  • Knowledge of document management system, particularly NetDocuments.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word and PowerPoint).

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong motivation to follow protocols and directions.

  • Strong organizational skills.

  • Ability to work under tight deadlines.

  • Ability to work with multiple people performing other functions within the Firm.

  • Ability to handle confidential information.

  • Ability to deal professionally and communicate clearly and concisely with clients, attorneys and staff on all levels.

  • Proven analytical skills.

  • Ability to maintain confidences as well as build confidences and trust with clients, attorneys and peers.

  • Ability to be flexible, handle pressure and adapt to changing work priorities, workflow and work assignments.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision to meet deadlines and productivity standards.
