Description
SAIC is seeking an Ocean Model Support Scientific Programmer/Analyst to be a member of the model and software Integration/Test/Validation development teams with the Global Modeling and Assimilation Office (GMAO) at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. The successful candidate will take part in our efforts to support the development of NASA’s Global Earth Observing System (GEOS) model.
This position is designed for a mid-career scientific software engineer with experience executing and validating large scientific codes on modern high-performance computing (HPC) platforms. This person will serve as the primary integration/testing/validation (ITV) developer for the ocean biogeochemistry software components within the GEOS Earth system model. The selected person will be responsible for integrating scientific and engineering updates from lead developers of GEOS into valid engineering and release tags, executing and maintaining a suite of standard testing and evaluation runs for the GEOS ocean biogeochemistry model component, and publishing results from a standard GEOS model validation package for all candidate system releases. The selected candidate also will be responsible for ensuring that developments are compatible with coupled atmosphere-ocean configurations of GEOS in collaboration with the other model developers at GMAO.
The primary expertise for a strong candidate will be a background in software development for large scientific codes and testing and evaluation on large HPC platforms. The successful candidate will also be detailed oriented, have excellent time management skills, and the ability to coordinate between diverse groups of multidisciplinary expertise. Knowledge/understanding of ocean and more specifically ocean biogeochemistry is a plus.
