Responsible for the operational success, strategic alignment and full integration of activities with other major organizational functions. Fully accountable for the long-term success of the designated organization and to the overall contribution to broader Company goals. Assumes responsibility for the successful implementation of business plans in a defined area of responsibility. Owns the definition of operational and strategic goals for one or more large, complex functions or departments. Acts as a key advisor to executive management in influencing the strategic direction of the business. Typically reports to SVP.


  • Provides overall strategic leadership for a geography or business segment made up of multiple organizations involved with designing and developing engineering solutions for products, systems, software, and solutions.

  • Creates strategic vision and drives the development of operations and resource plans, goals, and priorities for the geography or business segment based on business and technology roadmap and functional objectives.

  • Responsible for the dependability and scalability of enterprise-scale applications.

  • Develop and lead the reliability process to ensure the highest level of systems availability, stability, security and performance, including maintenance and support, root cause analysis, systems validation, performance tuning and capacity management.

  • Lead Application Platform Operations teams in shared responsibility for the reliability of these applications and associated platforms.

  • Have dedicated time for creating software that improves the reliability of systems in production, fixing issues, and responding to incidents/on-call events.

  • Establish a root cause analysis program that will lead to reduced downtime, increased resiliency and a culture of continuous improvement.

  • Design and implement monitoring, alerting and appropriate metrics to track and report adherence to service SLOs and SLAs, performance and operational efficiency.

  • Establish platform health reporting guidelines and communication plans.

  • Drive technical innovation and efficiency in application and infrastructure operations via simplification and automation.

  • Coordinate between infrastructure, platform and application subject matter experts to promote reliability efforts through communication and best practice sharing.

  • Work with engineering group to identify application and underlying framework end of life (EOL) requirements/opportunities, continuous capacity management, and associated investment plans.

  • Partner with CTO organization to coordinate and deliver improvements in critical performance and maintenance related metrics / KPI’s.

  • Collaborate with application managers and architects in technology strategy, roadmap and error budget.

  • Research and recommend on evolving technologies.

  • Manages ongoing complex business challenges and changes stemming from shifting market conditions, strategies or linkages.

  • Drives multi-year strategies and initiatives at the regional/global/business group level by exercising significant governance oversight in multiple areas (e.g., key policy decisions, resolution of high impact issues, and new product introduction).

  • Leads a team of Directors, Managers and Senior Individual Contributors for a business function and/or region by setting overall program initiatives, allocating financial and human capital for programs and projects, and ensuring timely and effective delivery of SRE programs.

  • Responsible for performance management, talent management and succession planning, ensuring that the appropriate tools and processes are in place to support the team.

  • Leads and directly manages multiple functions and demonstrates broad impact through significant direct and dotted-line employee reporting relationships.

Education and Experience Required:

  • Proven success at scaling and leading high-performing engineering teams responsible for building and operating critical infrastructure.

  • Must be able to show previous body of work in cloud and cloud native technologies.

  • Innovate while building and operating.

  • Work with and across large product organizations.

  • First level university degree or equivalent experience required. Advanced university degree preferred.

  • Typically 20 or more years of related work experience, including 15 or more years of people management experience.
