The Data Engineer is responsible for developing, testing, implementing, debugging, and supporting computer software used to create data warehouse applications. This includes data design, database architecture, metadata and repository creation, identification and resolution of information flow, content issues, and transformation of business requirements, troubleshooting problems and tuning existing warehouse applications.

We are looking for the Sr. Data Engineer to be customer focused, drive for success, put an emphasis on teamwork, effective communication, innovation and flexibility and adaptability. The Data Engineer is responsible for detailed technical design, development, and support of software applications using the AWS platform. They formulate concepts and develop solutions using defined user requirements and are able to interpret requirements and work with the customer to clarify requirements as needed.

They design, code, test, and document enhancements to existing systems of high complexity and scope, working with common application designs and specifications, utilizing industry and System standard procedures, products and methodologies, and execute performance and stress testing, as necessary.

RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Conducts logical and physical database design

  • Develops, tests, implements, and maintains database management applications including Big Data applications

  • Constructs and implements operational data stores, data lakes. and data marts

  • Translates user requirements into technical designs and implementations

  • Ensures all automated processes preserve data by managing the alignment of data availability and integration processes

  • Integrates data from one or more source systems into data repositories that are optimized for reporting and analytics

  • Works with other development teams to review and approve database changes according to database design standards and principles

  • Supports data and batch/real-time analytical solutions leveraging transformational technologies

  • Works on one or more projects as a team member designing and developing software applications, testing, and building automation tools

  • Designs key and indexing schemes and designs partitioning

  • Implements security and recovery tools and techniques as required

  • Creates a data catalog

  • Resolves conflicts between models, ensuring that data models are consistent with the Bank’s enterprise

Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other related field

  • 7+ years data engineering, data science, or software engineering experience, including knowledge of AWS cloud technology

  • Expert knowledge of data modeling and understanding of different data structures and their benefits and limitations under particular use cases

  • Ability to create quality ERD’s (entity-relationship diagrams)

  • Excellent writing skills for writing user and system documentation

  • Understanding of core AWS services, uses, and basic AWS architecture best practices (S3, DMS, Glue, Lambda)

  • Development/modeling experience with Amazon Redshift

  • Proficiency in developing, deploying, and debugging cloud-based applications using AWS

  • Ability to use a CI/CD pipeline to deploy applications on AWS (GitLab, terraform)

  • Ability to write code using AWS security best practices (e.g., not using secret and access keys in the code, instead using IAM roles)

  • Proficiency writing code for serverless applications

  • Must be a U.S Citizen
