Support for Early Learning and Families (SELF) collaborates with the Educational Service District (ESD) 112 in Vancouver, WA to provide staffing and talent management for Child Care Centers primarily in Southwest WA. Our staff serve infants through school age children and their families. We employ over 100 employees and are dedicated to ensuring every child in our community thrives. General Description of Position:
Under the direction of the Center Director, and supervision of the Operations Center Director, the Substitute Teacher is responsible for assisting in the creation of a learning environment which is safe, healthy, stimulating and caring, with activities designed around children's interest and developmental needs. In this position, you will travel throughout SW Washington to child care centers and may work with children from 0-11 years old. You will largely fill in for teachers on vacation, who are out sick, or where staffing gaps exist.
Qualifications and Skills:

18 years of age or older (Department of Children, Youth and Families minimum licensing requirement.
High School Diploma or GED
Ability to work within a team and work effectively with other people.
Ability to follow directions and follow through efficiently on assigned tasks.
Must present a professional and positive demeanor in behavior and dress.
Demonstrate an understanding and appreciation for diverse ethnic and economic backgrounds of families served.

Essential Functions:

Travel to a variety of Centers on sometimes short notice to provide ratio coverage and supervision to children.
Assist in planning and implementing developmentally appropriate child centered curriculum, posted lesson plans and class schedules.
Establish and maintain positive communication using collaborative methods to problem solve and interact with families, children, and staff.
Maintain a positive, flexible, and professional attitude while working to meet the needs of the individual child.
Supervise, interact, and play with children during assigned times of responsibilities.
Plan and set up the environment of the room with well-defined interest areas. Set up toys and materials so that they are accessible to children.
Follow established plans to meet the needs of the individual children with concerns for interests, disabilities, special talents, cultural background and individual styles.
Support and follow the guidance techniques posted in the classroom.
Lift children onto play equipment, changing table, and/or to hold or place on lap.
Assist with toileting, diapering, and hygiene needs of the children.
Help prepare and serve breakfast, lunch, and snacks following USDA guidelines (including meal counts and service procedures).
Clean up after food preparation and after serving breakfast, lunch, and snacks. Provide general housekeeping tasks such as sweeping, laundering, and picking up toys and materials used in projects.
Maintain a safe, orderly, clean and healthy center environment, including administering first aid and handling emergencies.
Maintain confidentiality.
Participate regularly in staff meetings, in-service programs, and workshops. This may require the ability to work occasional nights and weekends.
Follow the direction of the Center Director.
Float through other center classrooms to provide lunches, breaks and support for other teaching staff. Includes supporting other centers in SW Washington.
Other duties as assigned.

Physical and Strength Demands:

Regular attendance during scheduled work hours.
Requires the ability to move or traverse about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, center activities, etc.
Moderate or frequent exposure to loud noises, outside weather elements, and temperature changes.
Lifting requirements include the ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects including, the human body.
Job involves sitting, standing, walking, lifting, carrying, reaching, grasping, bending, stooping, crouching, pushing, and/or pulling. Position involves physical mobility with or without reasonable accommodation to perform essential functions of the job.

Employment Requirements:

Must have reliable transportation to travel to a variety of Centers in SW Washington.
Successful completion of a portable background check (PBC) and clearance through the Department of Children Youth and Families prior to starting employment, paid by SELF.
Valid certification in Child/Adult CPR, first-aid, HIV/Blood Borne Pathogens training and current food handler's card, paid by employee.
Valid negative TB test completed within the previous twelve months along with an initial health exam completed by medical provider showing you are free from communicable diseases.
Provide documentation showing immunity to the MMR.
Provide proof of COVID-19 Vaccination or have an approved medical/religious exception on file.
Participation in the State Training and Registry System (STARS) program required; Child Care Basics training required prior to employment.
