Job Description:

The Healthcare Associated Infections (HAI) Program within the CDPH Center for Health Care Quality is responsible for the prevention, surveillance, response and reporting of HAI and emerging antimicrobial resistance (AR) threats in California healthcare facilities.  With support of federal funding, the HAI Program employs a team of infection preventionists (IP) who provide training and consultative technical assistance to healthcare facilities for HAI/AR prevention, individually and as part of public health-led multi-facility collaborative projects. The IP Performance Coordinator is responsible for developing and overseeing processes for tracking and measuring impacts of the HAI Program IP team.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


  • Develops, and updates as needed, tools, documentation standards and processes for tracking IP team activities and outcomes.

  • Monitors, analyzes, summarizes and reports on IP team performance according to established objectives and metrics.

  • Contributes to HAI IP performance evaluations

  • Participates in collaborative project meetings as needed to ensure IP performance measures are tracked appropriately.

  • Collaborates regularly with the HAI epidemiologist team to identify technology solutions to enhance data collection, data entry, and facilitate analyses.

  • Informs and educates HAI Program staff of current performance measures status.

  • Meets regularly with HAI Program Chief to review status of performance measures.

  • Evaluates, proposes, implements, and oversees process changes.

  • Establishes access to Red Cap and other pertinent databases to track and report performance measures to CDC.

  • Coordinates, directs, and contributes to the development and writing of relevant portions of annual CDC funding applications.

  • Attends CDC funding update meetings as required.

  • Contributes and edits IP training materials as needed.

  • Organize IP project records and maintain files.

  • Accurately monitors, documents, and submit travel expenses.

  • Other duties as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS


  • Infection preventionist / healthcare epidemiologist with in-depth knowledge of Federal grant application and performance measure processes

Education/Experience


  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing, science, or public health. Master’s degree and/or Certification in Infection Control and Epidemiology (CIC) preferred.

  • Five or more years experience in a healthcare facility infection prevention role preferred

Certificates/Licenses/Clearances


  • California RN license if an RN

  • Knowledge of the evidence-base for HAI prevention.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of the team comprised of individuals across different agencies, disciplines, and locations.

  • Ability to work with diverse professionals and to train and educate healthcare providers.

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and abilities.

  • Competent with computer and application skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Remote work site. Occasional travel to healthcare facilities and selected in-person meetings at the Richmond campus.

Must have functioning internet access at remote location. There is no reimbursement for internet access.
