Supervisor, Clinical Services at Vitalant

Job Description:

PRIMARY PURPOSE:


Working under the direction of the Clinical Services Manager, oversee the Therapeutic Hemapheresis Program by supervising resources and staff to include managing the schedule for the staff performing therapeutic procedures, coordinating activities between other departments and Clinical Services, and coordinating Medical Director decisions into clinical practice; perform therapeutic hemapheresis, MNC, and stem cell collection procedures.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Performs all assigned duties in compliance with internal SOPs and external regulations. Brings compliance issues to the attention of management.

  • Assures quality customer service to all customers.

  • Maintains good attendance and punctuality per the absence policy.

  • Assesses, plans and evaluates the delivery of care for therapeutic treatments, monitoring adherence to established policies, protocols and regulatory standards.

  • Assists in evaluating the quality and effectiveness of nursing services, including identification of opportunities for improving services to the community and patient outcomes.

  • Supervises, directs, and evaluates the work of assigned staff including assigning and reviewing work, establishing goals, evaluating performance, and approving timecards. With the approval of the Clinical Services Manager, counsel and conduct personnel corrective action when needed. Ensure effective hiring, training, professional development, and retention of competent staff. Assure licensure requirements of nursing staff are current and complete.

  • Serves as a resource and role model by demonstrating the behavior expected of staff. Set the right example by acting in a manner that exemplifies the RITE values.

  • Within assigned department, fosters attitudes, conditions and environments that guide team toward excellence and acting with integrity and ethics. Create a work environment which helps foster the ability and desire of employees to act in empowered ways. Actively reward/recognize employees to reinforce accomplishments and positive outcomes.

  • Assists in the formulation, management and evaluation of a continuous staff development program. Ensure that all subordinate staff, prior to performing respective job functions, are adequately trained for the type and complexity of services for which they are responsible and have demonstrated that they can perform all functions reliably; maintain competency via policies/procedures, retraining, education or other appropriate measures.

  • Assists in the preparation and monitoring of the annual budget as it relates to Clinical Services, providing updates/concerns to the Clinical Services Manager in a timely manner.

  • Analyzes processes and data to identify areas that require improvement and have opportunities for improved efficiencies. Present performance data and recommend methods to improve effectiveness and efficiency to Clinical Services and management.

  • Participates in identifying and prioritizing short/long term strategic goals: identify required resources and establish course of action/objectives. Ensure plans are cost effective and efficient using sound business tools.

  • Performs all other duties, at the discretion of management, as assigned.


REQUIREMENTS:


Knowledge/Education


  • Associates Degree in Nursing or Diploma from an accredited School of Nursing required.

  • Must be able to successfully complete all required staff qualifications and supervisory training programs required.

  • Knowledge of general business and management practices required.

Licenses/ Certifications


  • Registered Nurse certification required.

  • CPR certification required.

Experience


  • One year previous experience as supervisor/lead/preceptor required.

  • Nursing related experience in the areas of medical/surgical ICU, hemodialysis/hemapheresis or transfusion services required.

Skills/Abilities


  • Must possess the skills and abilities to successfully perform all assigned duties and responsibilities.

  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality.

  • Must be able to understand, follow, and give precise written and verbal instructions, and perform all activities safely.

  • Ability to read, write and speak fluent English.

  • Ability to work in a team environment and participate as an active team member.

  • Able to organize, prioritize, and execute a variable workload and multiple priorities, including holidays and weekends

  • Attention to detail

  • Strong organizational skills.

  • Demonstrate proficient computer skills.

  • Ability to navigate electronic devices/equipment.

  • Ability to handle conflict and mitigate problems.

  • Interpersonal skills to interact effectively with internal and external customers.

  • Ability to lift 25 pounds repeatedly.
