Job Description:

Position Summary:
The New York County District Attorney's Office (DANY) has an immediate opening for a Supervisor in its Spanish Language Unit. In this position, the Supervisor is responsible for all aspects of DANY’s interpreting and translation to the Spanish Language Unit.  


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:



  • Coordinates and supervises Spanish/English translation services related to office interviews, Grand Jury proceedings, audio and video tapes and other documents.

  • Schedules in-house Spanish language interpreting assignments and maintains translation assignment calendar and activity log.

  • Supervises and trains Spanish language interpreters on office procedures.

  • Assesses Spanish language office needs and develops procedures to support efficient program operations.

  • May preform Spanish language interpreting, both oral and written translation, on an as needed basis.

  • Hires and supervises, as needed, outside per diem translators.

  • Maintains unit records of all completed interpretations, translations and other assignments as required by the Office, included but not limited to legal documents, personal statements, press releases, general forms/letters etc.

  • Ensures Assistant Supervisor validly proofreads, edits and revises all translation materials and provides feedback to interpreters in the unit.

  • Collaborates with all DANY units on Spanish language interpretation and translation needs.

  • Manages compliance of all interpreters on office standards. New hire orientation series, EEO/Diversity, Conflicts of Interest, Workplace Violence Prevention Trainings and other mandatory trainings.

Qualifications:



  • Minimum of at least 3 years of professional translation and interpretation experience required.

  • Must possess fluency in Spanish & English both oral and written.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word and Excel) and Wordfast required; knowledge of DANY applications preferred.

  • Strong attention to detail and high concern for data accuracy.

  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workflow.

  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills required.

  • Ability to interact with all levels of staff with high regard for confidentiality and diplomacy.

  • Ability to work efficiently to meet deadlines.

Educational Requirements:



  • Bachelor's degree required; Spanish major preferred.

Preferred Requirements:



  • Court Interpreter Certification preferred.

Commitment:



  • A one (1) year commitment to the hiring unit.
