Job Description Summary

We are looking for an assistant video editor at L.A. Times Studios, a video production company owned by Nant Media Holdings, LLC. L.A. Times Studios is responsible for a variety of projects, including “Second Opinion,” a digital series on public health, climate, technology and other topics, and Bravo’s television adaptation of the hit Los Angeles Times podcast “Dirty John.”

The assistant video editor will be responsible for several key aspects of the post-production workflow, including ingesting raw footage, media organization and multicam creation in Adobe Premier, and handling the application of on-screen text (lower thirds, uppers, captions) and generating original cuts adjacent to the main project. These additional cuts will be used on social media to promote Studios projects, and will also live adjacent to the main cuts in video galleries devoted to our projects.

This is a position for a detail-oriented team player. You will juggle work supporting edits while managing your own edits of excerpts and social media videos. In this second area you will be encouraged to be creative, and you will work with producers as they interact with the social media and consumer marketing departments.

The assistant video editor will report to the L.A. Times Studios post-production supervisor.

Job Description

Responsibilities:

• The assistant video editor will handle incoming media for projects across Studios, ingesting raw footage, organizing media and building mutlicams in Premier projects.


• Generates and applies on-screen text to ongoing edits, including: lower thirds, uppers, captions, bugs, titles and credits and other on-screen elements and animations.  Checks closely for spellings and misspellings and other errors.


• Help show producers collect media assets across L.A. Times media library and outside sources. 


• Maintains contact with producers and editors across various projects at one time.


• While the above work is ongoing, generates and exports via Media Encoder original social media and marketing videos promoting the project. Also is responsible for making excerpt videos published as digital adjacencies to the main product.


• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud including Premiere, Media Encoder, and Photoshop.


• Attention to detail as well as general understanding of postproduction and social media delivery best practices. 


• Flexible approach to work and a disciplined ethic; weekend work, late nights or early mornings may be required occasionally.


• Comfort multi-tasking across projects and strong communication skills. Success in the job will rely on candidate’s ability to keep multiple parties updated on progress across several things at one time.


• Comfort working on deadline.


• Adobe Premier Skills


• Experience creating promotional videos for social media.


• Experience working at a news organization.


• Working knowledge and experience across Adobe Creative Cloud and postproduction workflow in a broadcast television environment.


• Extensive experience creating social media videos and working with social media and marketing departments at a news organization.
