You Will Be Responsible For:


  • Discusses test results and technical issues with physicians and nursing personnel as requested.
  • Identifies and resolves problems that adversely affect test performance
  • Functions as staff technologist
  • Responsible for monthly scheduling of staff
  • Responsible for the orientation of new employees, staff development, evaluation and documentation of competency of personnel rotating through the section.
  • Interfaces with the pathologists and lab director regarding problems and concerns pertaining to the laboratory.
  • Implements policies to maintain efficient utilization of personnel, materials and equipment in order to contain costs.
  • Responsible for supply requisition and inventory control.
  • Interviews and recommend for hire all position levels in the laboratory
  • Overview and resolve all work items through Revenue Cycle
  • Overview daily time and attendance of employees
  • Monitors, tracks, and resolves performance improvement initiatives. Meets quarterly with PI Committee
  • Serves as a member of the laboratory leadership team.  Works collaboratively with colleagues
  • Strives to include the mission and values of Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center in the daily activities of the section.
  • Supervises the entire laboratory in the absence of the Laboratory Director when assigned.
  • Demonstrates competency in the performance of laboratory procedures as they relate to specific age groups (neonate, child, and adolescent, adult, geriatric).
  • Other responsibilities as designated by the Laboratory Director.

  • Attends/participates in mandatory facility-wide and department training/meetings as required including but not limited to: department Huddles, annual education, safety training, Town Halls, etc.  Is able to demonstrate and apply knowledge of fire, safety, security, disaster procedure regulations and National Patient Safety Goals as presented in orientation, outlined in safety manual, and as pertains to each work area.

  • Required to respond to emergency situations (i.e., disasters, hurricanes, etc.) by reporting to department and staying until the crisis is over or position is covered by incoming personnel.  This is a mandatory requirement.  Refusal to respond may result in termination.
  • Continually monitors quality of test and workflow performance of technical and support staff
  • Has regular contact with hospital employees, occasional contact with patients and outsider
  • Must conform to Hospital and Laboratory policies and procedures
  • Responsible for complying with HIPAA, CAP, AABB,JC, OSHA and other State and Federal laws governing the hospital in general and the laboratory in particular.
Qualifications

What You Will Need:


  • B.S. degree in medical technology from an accredited school or B.S. in a biological science with clinical laboratory certification
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in all areas of the laboratory
  • Must have a laboratory supervisor’s license in all areas of the laboratory

    • Or laboratory supervisor’s license in primary areas of laboratory: Chemistry, Hematology, Immunohematology and Serology.  Microbiology and Molecular supervisors license will be at the discretion of hiring laboratory.

  • Requires knowledge of medical terminology, effective communication skills and manual dexterity
  • Ability to perform several functions congruently
  • Ability to prioritize effectively
  • Ability to reason and make educated decision

 

Job Summary:

Under the general supervision of the Laboratory Director, the Evening Shift Supervisor organizes the workflow process and work performed in the Laboratory Department. Supervises and participates in the evaluation of staffs. The Evening Shift Supervisor resolves equipment and procedure problems with service and technical representatives. Ensures an appropriate inventory of reagents and supplies. Recommends disciplinary actions and training protocols for employees.
