What you will do

Johnson Controls has a phenomenal opportunity for a Quality Engineer – New Product Development. This person will be the product quality representative working with the Design Engineering, Manufacturing, and Supplier teams on new products. This role will comply with new product development processes to ensure the best product is produced to meet customer, reliability, and design requirements. This individual will utilize strong technical ability, problem solving skills, and communication skills to help troubleshoot, diagnose, and solve issues during the development phases and through the start of production. This position is based in Milwaukee, WI, but for the right candidate, we will consider remote. 

How you will do it


  • Overall management of new product launch; support VAVE product launch 

  • Focus on quality chain through new product lifecycle 

  • Ensure that all proactive steps are taken to mitigate risks associated with new product launch 

  • Champion APQP principles and work to create methods and systems to improve risk mitigation strategies and product quality

  • Champion and participate in the running and create of DFMEA/PFMEA/Control Plan activities to eliminate or reduce product risk 

  • Verify, assess, and approve new product testing plan including function/reliability and field trial against related standards and policies 

  • Approves design engineering readiness and manufacturing handoff of new products 

  • Sign and approve each gate of the new product development including product release 

  • Work closely with cross-organizational teams (R&D, Operations, Finance, IT, Services, Customer Experience, etc.) to identify issues and opportunities in the new product development process 

  • Coordinate with other quality functions and reports out products risk during phase gates 

What we look for

Required


  • BS or MS in mechanical engineering, quality engineering, manufacturing engineering, or other technical discipline.

  • 5-8 years experience within quality engineering and new product development.

  • Demonstrated problem solving skills and mastery of 8D.

  • Demonstrated ability to utilize Six Sigma tools (FMEAs, Gauge R&R, Capability Analysis, Statistical Process Control) and statistical tools (Minitab, JPM, etc).

  • Collaborative and comfortable working across the organization.

  • Relentless curiosity and a desire to learn and implement new solutions.

  • Results oriented.

  • Strong technical expertise.

  • Ability to work in and influence across a matrix organization.

  • Can work on multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Must be skilled in all modules of Microsoft Office.

  • Ability to communicate with multiple cultures/regions via videoconference, emails, and phone calls.

  • Candidate must exhibit a high-level of self-motivation, sense of urgency and comfortable making recommendations across broad teams.

Preferred


  • Experience with a stage-gate product development process.

  • Lean/Six Sigma training, Green or Black Belt.

  • Familiarity with reading 2D part drawings and understanding GD&T, CAD software.

  • Certified CQE.

  • Experience with ISO 9001.

  • Open to occasional business travel.
