The Senior Program Manager has full responsibility and accountability for all operational aspects in leading a cross functional project team to deliver on all scope objectives with the highest level of quality.   They are the single point of contact to the customer whilst being the customers advocate within the Lonza network with the goal of achieving total customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Lead project execution after deal closure with ultimate accountability for project initiation, planning, execution and control (cost, time, quality and risk)

  • Direct and motivate multi-disciplinary project teams and keep team members accountable to deliver

  • Conduct internal and external Project Team Meetings to ensure that all stakeholders and the customer are working in accordance to the agreed to Project Plan.

  • Ensure that the Program delivers to the agreed objectives and is successful for Lonza and the Customer

  • Secure required resources and capacity commitments and obtain buy-in of all relevant stakeholders.

  • Single point of contact for all operational aspects of the Program

  • Understand Customer needs and commit to project scope and timelines. Secure agreement to the plan from the project team and the customer.

  • Represent the Customer Project within the Lonza Network and is the Customers’ advocate on-site

  • In conjunction with Sales, ensure customer satisfaction throughout the life of the project

  • Identify ongoing project opportunities and in conjunction with Sales, establish mid-to- long term program strategy (where applicable)

  • Effective Internal and external communication of project status and risks ensuring stakeholders accountability and awareness.

  • Define, organize and be responsible for all project communication

  • Timely escalation of critical project issues as per the agreed Escalation Policy

  • Control project scope and manage changes via liaison with Proposals team

  • Maintenance of project risk assessment and risk mitigation plan. Manage agreed remediation plans where applicable.

  • Responsible for all financial aspects of active projects managed. (e.g. forecasting, cost control, invoicing)

  • Contribute to applicable business reports

Key requirements:


  • Minimum University and/or master’s degree (technical background)

  • Intermediate to Advanced  (PM II),  5 (PM III) years relevant experience in project/program management

  • Advanced years Manufacturing, R&D, MSAT, commercial or similar work experience in a relevant function in the life sciences industry

  • PMP or Prince2 desirable

  • Previous Project Management experience and/or PMP certification required for higher level positions

  • Technical competency in areas of Pharmaceutical Industry related to cGMP, regulatory standards and Biotech processing.

  • Experience of working in a matrix organizational structure

  • Leadership skills with the ability to motivate and maintain high moral within the group or team setting.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities

  • Strong time management with a proactive approach to the job

  • Ability to resolve conflict at all levels of the organization

  • High attention to detail and strong business awareness

  • Excellent written, oral and presentation skills

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills coupled with the ability to work both independently and in a team environment.

  • Strong customer interpersonal skills, and understands the value of relationship building based on trust.

  • Strong planning, organization and controlling skills.

  • Effective use of hard and soft skills in all aspects of Program Management including conflict resolution, team building, decision making, etc…

  • Strategic mind-set with quality decision making, while balancing risk.

  • MS Project skills are required.  Prior experience with MS Excel MS PowerPoint and MS Word

  • Has a strong sense of operating in a proactive manner driving towards key millstones and project initiatives.

  • Has the strength of character to have tough conversations with a customer, internal team member, and/or management

  • Anticipate, understand, and respond to the needs of our customers  to meet or exceed their expectations

  • Practice ethical behavior and business practices, and ensure that own behavior and the behavior of others is consistent with these standards and aligns with the values of the organization
