We are seeking a full-time Immigration Counsel for our headquarters in the greater Kansas City area. In this role, you will be responsible for filing employment-based immigration cases and providing advice to Human Resources staff and management regarding U.S. immigration law.
Essential Functions
Serve as a subject matter expert on immigration matters and stay informed on rapidly changing immigration law and policy
Handle all aspects of business immigration law to include H-1B, L-1, PERM, I-140, I-485, TN, H-4, EAD, and counseling employers on compliance issues
Create and prepare all documents for filing and respond to RFEs and DOL audits
Communicate clearly and effectively on immigration requirements, government procedures, and case processing times to Human Resources, associates, and business leaders
Provide immigration training and guidance to Garmin associates and managers
Assist with secondments and inter-company transfers as needed
Represent Garmin and its associates in USCIS interviews
Apply knowledge of law to advise on legal rights and obligations and research applicable laws, regulations, and rulings
Obtain and analyze all relevant information to provide accurate legal advice, conduct or manage internal investigations, and serve as a resource on employment-related issues
Basic Qualifications
Law Degree from an ABA accredited law school AND a minimum of 2 years experience in a high-volume corporate immigration practice
Admission to the applicable State Bar in the location of employment (for US based positions)
Experience with Law Logix, INSZoom or other related immigration management system
Demonstrates knowledge of Garmin’s business and products
Demonstrates an aptitude to learn and effectively apply legal knowledge in the business context
Must be positive, detail and quality oriented, organized, analytical, team oriented and a driven problem solver, multi-tasker, and self-starter with the ability to prioritize and multi-task in a fast paced, deadline-driven environment
Demonstrates strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Demonstrates proficiency using Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
