Senior Materials Supervisor at Woodbridge Chattanooga Formed Plastics LP

Job Description:

Role Purpose:

This position is responsible for translating orders into a manufacturing plan for each manufacturing machine daily and tracks manufacturing performance to the schedule, adjusting production schedules for shortfalls. Follow daily procedures to ensure all our customers receive their correct product in a timely and efficient manner. Achieve customer satisfaction by continually improving customer relations through communication and product timelines.  Supervise material handlers to ensure proper procedures are followed. Focus Materials team on implementing plans to achieve goals.  Provide back up support to the Materials Manager.

Responsibilities and Activities:


  • Analyze customer releases and inventory requirements. Performs new product / process analysis to ensure that the customer / supplier just-in-time system is maintained.

  • Develop and coordinate multiple- production line schedules to meet customers’ ship schedules while meeting inventory goals, level loading and meeting customers’ takt times production.

  • Develop a positive and cooperative relationship with internal and external customers and daily answering & inputting customer information in a timely and accurate manner.

  • Assure that customers receive the desired quantity of product on a just-in-time basis.

  • Maintains a just-in-time supply of raw materials.

  • Ensures FIFO of materials and perform cycle counts, including component parts.

  • Analyze internal inventory component variances, problem solve and implement corrective actions.  Assists with inventory control and customer billing. Participate in monthly inventory process.

  • Supervise material handlers including interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

  • Provides management guidance and direction to all employees in the materials function to ensure a safe, efficient, and effective department.

  • Design and implement policies, procedures and methods as required to facilitate objectives.

  • Facilitates the procurement of transportation services as required to maintain just-in-time process.

  • Participate in company and department Health, Safety & Environment (HS&E) and Woodbridge Production System (WPS) programs.

  • Manage mobile equipment PM and safety conformance. Establish and maintain 5S standards for Materials.

  • Data input, clerical and administrative activities as required by the position.

  • Cross train in all functions of the materials organization and provide back up support to the Materials Manager.

  • Other duties as assigned by Materials Manager.

Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree, emphasis I logistics, materials or supply chain preferred.

  • Eight (8) to Ten (10) years’ experience in materials and logistics, preferably in automotive industry.

  • Possess understanding of modern manufacturing principles, current inventory and materials control, methodology to include MRP/JIT processes

  • Must demonstrate the ability to successfully plan, coordinate and direct the activities of the materials control function, which includes the design, implementation and continuous improvement of the systems and procedures associated with the functional area.

  • Must possess excellent computer skills, ERP experience is an asset.

  • Understanding AS400, CMS preferred.

  • Ability to calculate figures and amount such as discount, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

  • Understanding of customer requirements within the automotive and packaging marketplace.

  • Well developed computer skills with the ability to use the computer system as an effective tool for tracking orders and maintaining accurate inventory and production records.

  • Excellent organizational and verbal skills and above average written communication skills.

  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, 5S and kaizen
