Job Description:

*$4,000 sign-on bonus for full-time employment (1-year commitment required)*
The Assistant Director of Nursing demonstrates commitment to resident care by supporting the Director of Nursing with clerical, administrative, planning and organization responsibilities while providing professional nursing services. The Assistant Director of Nursing is responsible for assisting the Director of Nursing with maintaining the quality and adequacy of nursing practice; for coordinating nursing and training programs; for recognizing and assisting in solving professional, administrative and supervisory problems in an assigned area.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Provide "on call" services to nursing staff per schedule determined by Administrator.
While "on call" be available via telephone at all times and be able to report to facility within thirty (30) minutes if necessary.
Be knowledgeable regarding state/federal regulations and facility policies and procedures.
Perform audits and intervene as necessary to maintain departmental compliance with state/federal regulations and facility policies and procedures.
Demonstrate the ability to assess the full scope of patient needs, using the nursing process on a continuous basis.
Provide a safe environment for residents, visitors and employees through identifying, correcting and reporting health and safety concerns.
Assist the Director of Nursing in developing and implementing nursing policies and procedures.
Participate in the quality management program and attend all meetings.
Assist the Director of Nursing in formulating and implementing improvement plans based off of review of facility Quality Indicators.
Assist the Director of Nursing in the recruitment, retention, and training of licensed nursing staff.
Assist the Director of Nursing in providing twelve (12) hours of educational in-service to the department annually.
Identify areas of poor performance in licensed nursing staff and provide education and disciplinary action as necessary.
Assist the Director of Nursing in developing the monthly staffing schedules for licensed nursing staff.
Assist the Director of Nursing in initiating and documenting thorough investigations on all allegations of abuse.
Participate in annual inspections of facility by the Department of Health Services.
Work with Administrator and Director of Nursing to develop a plan of correction for any deficiencies noted during survey.
Assist the Director of Nursing in educating department staff and implementing changes per the plan of correction.
Work as RN Floor Nurse, providing direct care to residents, when other coverage cannot be provided.
Perform all delegated tasks that are within scope of practice.
Absorb job responsibilities of Director of Nursing in his/her absence.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of:

Medical terminology.
Safety rules, policies and procedures, infection prevention and control procedures.
Facility emergency/disaster response and evacuation procedures.
Full understanding of all aspects of residents' rights, including the right to be free of restraints and free of abuse. Is responsible for promptly reporting to the charge nurse or administrative staff incidents or evidence of resident abuse or violation of residents' rights.
Abuse reporting and suspicion of a crime procedures.

Skill in:

Effective leadership.
Use and care of equipment, tools and materials used in resident care activities.
Working independently to complete daily activities according to work schedule.
Following and maintaining safety standards.
Following and effectively communicating verbal and written instructions.
Interpersonal relationships with residents, visitors and co-workers.

Work more than eight (8) hours per day and/or forty (40) hours per week when required.

Be sensitive to resident's families and respond in a professional manner.
Adjust communication style based off of audience such as physician's, associate personnel, licensed nursing staff, nursing assistants, residents, and visitors.
Know your scope of practice and always operate within it.
Assume charge of personnel and clients assigned to your area.
Temporarily work in positions requiring a RN as necessary and when directed by supervisor.
Adhere to the Arizona State Board of Nursing Rules and Nurse Practice Act.
Use diagnostic equipment.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with associate personnel, residents and resident family members.
Demonstrate a leadership roll through clinical practice, supervision, teaching and research.
Read and write clearly.
Understand and follow, quickly and accurately, oral and written instructions.
Maintain confidentiality and work under pressure in a dynamic environment with changing demands and priorities.
Prioritize tasks and demonstrate good time management skills.
Demonstrate excellent organizational skills.
Respond quickly and effectively to many types of situations, including crisis situations.
Monitor time and stress levels to ensure effective care is provided to the residents and effective leadership is provided to the staff.
Comply with facility policies and procedures.

WORK CONTACTS
Regular contacts with associate personnel, residents, resident family members and visitors.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to bear weight and lift 100 pounds or more.
Requires constant physical activities including standing, walking, lifting, bending, stooping, pulling, stretching, turning, grasping and reaching.
Visual acuity to determine the accuracy, thoroughness and quality of work assigned.
Must be able to wear protective equipment such as gloves, masks, gowns, goggles and gait belts.
Aural acuity to receive detailed information through oral communication, often from persons with speech impairment.
Frequent exposure to fumes or airborne particles, common health care conditions, smells, noises, chemicals and some mechanical equipment.
Exposure to a variety of patient conditions and elements.
Regular requirement of long hours and frequent weekend work.
Frequent interactions with persons who may be verbally abusive to include yelling and cursing.
Frequent interaction with persons who are disabled, elderly and emotionally upset and who may be emotional, verbally and physical abusive.
Requires the ability to work with frequent interruptions with a workload that may be unpredictable and difficult to manage at times.
Safety-sensitive position pursuant to A.R.S. 23-493.

REQUIRED MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRANING

Must be a graduate of a state approved school of nursing.
Must have a current Arizona Registered Nursing License or a current license from a compact license state.
Must hold a current Arizona State Board Registered nursing license and must maintain license renewal in accordance with the standards of the State Board of Nursing.
Previous experience in geriatric care preferred


SPECIAL JOB REQUIREMENT(S)

Attend mandatory nursing meetings and continuing education classes that are designated mandatory.
Obtain/maintain Arizona Department of Public Safety Fingerprint Card at employee's expense.
Obtain/maintain CPR Certification.
Complete annual Tuberculosis Testing.
Complete required 12 hours of annual in-service training.
