Job Description:

The VP/GM Manufacturing oversees multiple Plant Operations within a region of the United States. Key objectives of this role include: Full P&L responsibility for the BU. Accountable for the execution of the business strategy for the BU. Provides input into sales and marketing activities for the specified region. Responsible for collaborating with Greif leaders to maintain a global approach to serving customers. Leads direct reports in planning and developing tactical and strategic improvements on equipment and facilities, ensuring effectiveness and profitability. Fosters a culture of accountability, professional development, high performance, and ethical behavior.

Key Responsibilities


  • Achieve Business Unit (SBU) targets

    • Monitor progress of regional objectives and initiates corrective action where necessary

    • Uphold the Greif Way, serving all stakeholders and shareholders ethically, sustainably, and safely with continuous improvement

    • Develop the operating budget and ensure attainment of this budget for the region

    • Evaluate manufacturing capacity and recommend facility expansions, closures, relocations, and consolidations

    • Review and recommend approval of capital project requests for all facility and equipment changes

    • Ensure the highest utilization of facilities and personnel

    • Encourage innovation and initiative to explore new paths and approaches to manufacturing processes and/or product development

    • Direct the materials management function for the BU area

    • Direct and reviews transportation alternatives at plant locations

    • Establish inventory control policies to maximize turnover while meeting production objectives

  • Minimize costs to the business

    • Establish cost competitive objectives, monitors progress, and assists colleagues in attaining those objectives

    • Direct the development of new and improved manufacturing methods, tools, equipment, procedures, and facility lay outs, designed to optimize cost and enhance efficiency

    • Direct in conjunction with the Supply Chain and Transportation departments, the transportation activity of the BU area ensuring costs are optimized and customer satisfaction is achieved

  • Interface with other disciplines to ensure organizational objectives are achieved

    • Collaborate with the VP Operations, VP Sales, and Commercial Excellence to establish and apply quality and customer service goals and measurement systems

    • Direct and inspect, in conjunction with Engineering, activities including planning, construction, and installation and equipping of facilities

    • Ensure strong customer relations in collaboration with sales by reviewing complaints, non-conformances, and following up to insure preventative action is completed. Oversees sales and marketing functions for specified areas

    • Develop a quality consciousness and pride of work attitude throughout the organization

    • Direct the compliance of all facilities with Federal and State safety, environmental, and employment regulations

  • Ensure the safety of all colleagues

    • Prepare and enforce policies to establish a culture of health and safety

    • Monitor compliance to policies and laws by inspecting colleague and plant working practices

    • Establish injury reduction goals for the BU area and oversees the attainment of these goals

  • Perform other duties as assigned

    • Drive a culture of colleague engagement by fostering open communication, continuous feedback, recognition, and development

  • Support organizational and colleague development plans, ensuring that they progress to the limits of their ability and add strength to the organization

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree (B. S.), or equivalent education and experience; Master's Degree preferred

  • 10+ years of experience in a manufacturing production environment; preferred multi-site experience; preferred previous P&L experience

  • High aptitude to problem solving, partnering with others to come up with creative solutions so business needs.
