Grounds Technician

Georgia-Pacific is seeking a Grounds Technician for its Oriented Strand Board (OSB) facility located in Gladys, VA. This position is responsible for providing ground and housekeeping support to the operation to allow for manufacturing goals.

Our Ground Technicians typically work a Monday through Friday 8 hour Day shift. At times, they may be required to work up to 12 hour shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime and work indoors or outdoors in all weather conditions. We offer $16+/hr depending on experience, a generous benefits package including medical, dental, 401k, paid holidays, and paid vacations, as well as overtime opportunities. What You Will Do In Your Role

  • Responsible for the housekeeping and clean-up of all parts of the facility, which can include heights and confined spaces. Housekeeping tools include but are not limited to shovels, rakes, brooms, and various lengths of hoses
  • Perform as-needed duties such as equipment set-up and clean-up, ground support, furniture moving, snow and ice removal, and other tasks
  • Assist operators in responding to down time events and provide support around fire watch and other events in the mill
  • Operate mobile equipment, including front end loader, sweeper, forklift, and manlift
  • Use hand tools and other equipment, such as air hoses and rakes
  • Communicate effectively and respectfully with other team members in a team-based environment to accomplish assigned tasks
  • Perform tasks such as pulling, pushing, and lifting up to 50 lbs., as well as walking, climbing, including stairs, ladders, stooping, standing, and reaching for up to at least twelve (12) hours a day in high and/or confined spaces
  • Adhere to and promote all safety policies to include wearing all necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Learn and comply with environmental and safety guidelines, policies, and permit requirements
  • Complete training to become CPR and First-Aid certified

The Experience You Will Bring


  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Experience using a computer or tablet for documentation and/or record-keeping functions

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Experience operating Mobile Equipment
  • Experience in a logging environment
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience working within a manufacturing, industrial setting OR operating heavy equipment
