The Department of Hussman Institute for Human Genomics has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Research Associate 1. The Research Associate 1, SOM supports research activities for the assigned division by conducting laboratory experiments on assigned research projects. Moreover, the incumbent operates with the goal of advancing his/her expertise through continued education, training, and research. Perform tissue culture-based experiments to evaluate the functional consequences of specific genetic variants. Perform molecular techniques include, but are not limited to DNA/RNA extraction, agarose gel electrophoresis and PCR. Prepare tissue and specimens for complex procedures and devise experimental techniques for tests and analyses. Confer with principal investigator in developing plans for research projects and to discuss the interpretation of results and the preparation of scientific manuscripts for publication. Identifies and order supplies and reagents for experiments Supervise, train, and instruct students or new personnel in laboratory techniques and procedures. Demonstrate an ability to learn new techniques and standard operating protocols in a timely manner. Review laboratory methods manual, scientific journals, abstracts, and other literature for information applicable to research experiments. Understands and interprets research protocols and procedures. Participates in the publication of significant results. Maintains an overview of relevant research findings. Ensures all research is undertaken according to good research practice. Keeps abreast of current publications relative to methods, techniques, and developments within the area of research. Collects, prepares, analyzes, dissects, and evaluates specimens or tissue cultures. Operates and maintains laboratory equipment. Performs a variety of routine assays, tests, and studies. Performs calculations to complete research test results, collects data, and performs statistical analysis of laboratory results. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
