Job Description:

The Associate Dean is responsible for providing senior administrative support to the Gabelli School of Business (GSB). Additionally, the Associate Dean has responsibility for coordinating assistance with student recruitment events, academic dishonesty processes, general student services including support and advising, developing School-wide class schedules and curriculum development. Working with the Dean of the Gabelli School of Business, the Associate Dean will assist in handling everyday procedures, as well as special assignments, and assists in providing both programmatic and academic leadership in the School. The Associate Dean is also responsible for AACSB accreditation and other reporting.

Administration

  • Administer program involvement and process for AACSB, and prepare annual and other reports to support ongoing accreditation.
  • Complete annual business school questionnaire and annual salary survey including data collection and entry, ensuring accuracy of information and a timely submission.
  • Ensure Gabelli School of Business is in compliance with AACSB directives and professional standards, by coordinating with Director of Assurance of Leaning, to recommend policies, procedures, administrative practices and other measures that will support AACSB requirements.
  • Chair faculty based committees responsible for various tasks and policies within the School.

Scheduling

  • Work with GSB faculty, the Assistant Dean and Registrar to produce workable course schedules each semester.

Curriculum Development

  • Work with GSB faculty on new program and curriculum development and revision of current curriculum.

Coordinate Enrollment Management Activities

  • Organize and supervise GSB related enrollment management events including but not limited to Open House, Accepted Student Day, Transfer Student and New Student (freshman) Orientations.
  • Oversee internal transfer student process and policy. Approve requests to transfer credit from other colleges and universities (course pre-approvals and previously completed courses) and identify appropriate course equivalencies.
  • Coordinate GSB business majors' materials with the University's Division of Enrollment Management and Retention.
  • Make judgements concerning allowable departures from degree requirements based on exceptional circumstances and execute Program Adjustment requests for submission to the Registrar.
  • Work with Graduation Coordinator in the Registrar's Office to qualify seniors for graduation.

Prepare, Organize, and Disseminate Information

  • Coordinate GSB's contributions to the annual University Catalog.
  • Collect and analyze data and prepare reports on information for internal committees, the Dean and other University offices as requested.

Administer Academic Actions

  • Work with the Dean to identify and notify students who earned the following designations: dismissal, suspension, probation, Dean's List.
  • Work with staff to identify students eligible for Beta Gamma Sigma (business honorary society), GSB Senior Awards, and prepare lists to be evaluated by faculty.

Contribute To and Support the Success of the School

  • Work collaboratively with the Dean, the Assistant Dean, and the faculty within the GSB to increase the effectiveness of programs.
  • Work closely with various offices on campus (including but not limited to, Dean's Offices, Registrar, Admissions, Global and International Programs, Center for Academic Development, Career Center) on issues related to student services and student records.
  • Engage in academic research activities and professional development activities.

Additional Functions

  • Teach one GSB course per semester.
  • Serve as faculty advisor to a group of undergraduate students (typically about 25 students) and to students in the process of transferring to the business school (varies, but usually 10 to 15 students)
  • Represent the GSB on selected committees as requested by the Dean.

Requirements:

  • Ph.D. or D.B.A. in business or a related discipline, preferably from an AACSB accredited school.
  • Experienced administrator and faculty member with qualifications commensurate with the rank of at least Associate Professor (six to eight years' experience).
  • Strong Microsoft Office Suite skills.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively with administrators, faculty, students, and the external community.
  • Experience in recognizing the implications of actions throughout the administrative chain and taking the necessary actions.
  • A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Complete understanding of the differences between faculty and administrative work.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of, and commitment to, the education and educational needs of students.
  • A documented scholarly agenda, including on-going research and publications, and grant activities.

At the University's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be excepted where the candidate can demonstrate, to the satisfaction of the University, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
