Job Summary

We are looking for a Safety and Security Officer who will oversight the credit union's safety and security programs. Will approach the role with integrity, an openness to learn and a willingness to be flexible as we will lead the ongoing development and implementation of policies, positive safety and security culture, systems, procedures, and tools for Southern California branches. Working directly with Team Members and management to ensure policies and procedures are complied with and best practices are followed.

This will require local travel to our branches in Los Angeles County, Orange County, and Inland Empire.

EHS, EH&S, EH&S, HSE, Safety Officer, Facilities Manager

Responsibilities


  • Under minimal supervision, responsible for a wide range of environmental, health and safety disciplines to achieve compliance with ES&H standards along with federal and state regulatory requirements.

  • Develops and conducts employee training, emergency preparedness and assures the quality of programs.

  • Develops, implements, and maintains safety and health programs, systems and procedures.

  • Develops and conducts employee training, emergency preparedness and assures the quality of programs.


  • Leads as a change agent for safety culture.

  • Responsible for executing on and maintaining the Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP).

  • Ensures the credit union compliance with various local, state and federal agencies such as OSHA, Cal/OSHA, DEP, EPA, Insurance carriers, Local Fire/Police, etc. for permitting, inspection requirements, safety, environmental and security regulations.

  • Applies OSHA's Hazard Identification and Assessment model/approach to the credit union's operations.

  • Provide technical guidance and support coordination regarding safety issues.

  • Responsible for the Emergency Management Plan and partners with Human Resources to establish, maintain and train Team Members in company policies and safety and security regulations.

  • Leads the credit union's incident investigation practice to determine the root cause(s) and develop & implement corrective action plans.

  • Performs related duties as assigned.



Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • 2+ years of Cal/OSHA experience in comprehensive workplace safety and regulatory compliance programs and auditing.

  • Professional certifications: CPEA, PE, CSP, CIH, or other relevant certifications.

  • Excellent working knowledge of EHS regulations and consensus standards.

  • Current CA state driver's license, reliable transportation, and current state liability auto insurance.



Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in occupational safety and health or related field.

  • 5+ years of experience in comprehensive workplace safety and compliance programs.

  • Experience working at a credit union or within the financial services industry.



Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, specifically Outlook, Word and Excel.

  • Strong management, leadership, and interpersonal skills.

  • Excellent communication skills: verbal and written.

  • Maintain positive and professional behavior with credit union Members, staff, management, and board.

  • Keep all credit union and Member information confidential.

  • Work independently and prioritize multiple tasks and adapt to needed changes.

  • Maintains expert knowledge of specific government agency requirements.

  • Prepares reports and recommends corrective action.
