Princeton University Library seeks an energetic, service-oriented individual to join its Cataloging and Metadata Services team (CaMS). CaMS is a multidisciplinary group of talented individuals working collaboratively to support the teaching, learning, and research mission of Princeton University by providing efficient, thorough, and accurate access to the Library's holdings in many formats and languages.

Princeton University Library is one of the world's leading research libraries, supporting a diverse community of 5,200 undergraduates, 2,700 graduate students, 1,200 faculty members, and many visiting scholars. Its holdings include more than 7 million printed volumes, 85 thousand manuscripts, 2 million non-print items, and extensive collections of digital text, data, and images.

The Library employs a dedicated and knowledgeable staff of more than 300 people working in a large central library, nine specialized branches, and three storage facilities.

The Cataloging and Metadata Services department at Princeton University Library is looking for a Bibliographic Specialist to join the ACCT Library Team. This is a multi-faceted position, encompassing acquisitions and cataloging tasks, hiring and supervising students, and maintaining the 693 hold. It reports to the supervisor of the ACCT team.



Responsibilities


  • Hires, schedules, trains, supervises students

  • Receives and checks in items from approval plans

  • Searches the library catalog and other bibliographic utilities such as OCLC

  • Creates, edits, and/or adds bibliographic metadata in Alma

  • Completes member copy cataloging in Alma

  • Sorts and shelves in the 693 holds

  • Maintains order in the 693 holds



Qualifications


  • Must be able to move books from shelves to book trucks (and trucks to shelves) for an extended period of time

  • Must be able to work at a computer for up to 6 hours per day

  • Demonstrated managerial experience

  • Demonstrated training experience

  • Four years of library (or equivalent academic) experience, with at least two using an integrated system

  • Familiarity with the MARC bibliographic format

  • Familiarity with MS Office Suite

  • Fluency in written and oral English

  • Competence in 2 Western languages other than English, where competency is defined as the ability to identify and distinguish bibliographic details such as authors, titles, series titles. Russian or Greek may be substituted.

  • Ability to work in a team environment with a diverse staff
