This role will be based in two of Ferrara Candy Company's cookie plants (Florence Kentucky Bakery and Louisville Kentucky Bakery). Up to 35% travel to manufacturing sites in the Chicagoland area, Florence Ky., Louisville Ky., Augusta Georgia and greater US.

This position is part of corporate engineering and will be responsible for the designs, management, scoping and execution of capital projects ranging from $50,000 to $50,000,000. Primary responsibilities include but not limited to the following;

  • Capital projects from conception to closure.
  • Project scope identification and development.
  • Project management
  • Construction / contractor management
  • Project budgets and spend utilizing SAP & Excel spread sheets
  • Technical leadership and support to the facility in regards to the capital projects
  • Support plant based and corporate stakeholders to ensure projects are executed safely, efficiently, on time & to budget
This position reports directly to the Engineering Director of the Cookie Division.

  • Manages capital projects from concept through execution
  • Accountable for Project/Construction Management (internal and external), IT coordination, facilities/utilities engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, capital planning, and systems engineering.
  • Works closely with Corporate Engineering, contracted engineering services, operations, research and innovation, food safety/quality, safety, and other Engineering/Facilities Managers and Maintenance Managers.
  • This position must work with local/state/federal agencies, risk management and other agencies to ensure the facility meets regulations.
  • Ensures capital project scope alignment, leveraging engineering established workflow, start-up success criteria to ensure overall plant capital spend, and overall execution deliverables
  • Participates in project reviews and audits for safety, quality and feasibility
  • Accountable for compliance with all regulations. Food safety: plant in proper sanitary condition at all times including allergen control, pest control, guidelines followed. Compliance with food safety/quality policies and procedures and HACCP initiatives. Compliance with employee safety policies and procedures.
  • Make strategic decisions, considering immediate and long-term implications, benefits and costs, and risks associated with decision alternatives.
  • Develops and communicates project schedules and conducts project reviews
  • Works closely with scheduling and plant personnel for start-up plans
  • Ensures that the end result of the project is what was agreed upon during project development and submission
  • Supports the manufacturing facilities with technical troubleshooting
  • Participates in monthly plant meetings and provides updates to senior level operations management
  • Closes projects in a timely manner ensuring that all stakeholders are trained and ready

Skills that will make you successful





  • Strong "hands-on" mechanical/electrical/controls aptitude from previous industry experience
  • Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot equipment design and functional issues
  • Ability to use AutoCAD and Solidworks for equipment layouts
  • Competency using MS office suite and MS Project (Excel, Word, Power Point)
  • Strong vendor management skills
  • Ability to work well in teams
  • Good organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to meet critical deadlines
  • Ability working with multiple equipment vendors and contractors while managing multiple projects simultaneously through their different stages.




Experiences that will support your success





  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Chemical or Electrical engineering
  • Minimum 10 years of industry experience (5 years in food or related field) with a minimum of 10 years in project engineering, project management & construction management with both small and large scale projects.
  • Food manufacturing experience both processing and packaging.
  • Previous experience with brownfield and greenfield plant expansions is strongly preferred
  • Experience managing external engineering firms as they support assigned projects.
