Baker Botts is a full-service, leading international law firm recognized for our in-depth understanding of the industries we serve. We are looking for an engaged client relationship professional who thrives in a team environment and is committed to helping others be successful to fill the role of Senior Manager of our Litigation practice. This individual will join our high functioning Client Development team known for their collegiality, business acumen and positivity. In this role, you will lead the business development and marketing initiatives for the Antitrust and Competition Law, White Collar Criminal Defense, and Privacy and Data Security practices. This is a full-time, exempt Firmwide position with excellent benefits, resident in the Firm’s Washington, DC office and reporting to the Associate Director of Litigation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop, manage and execute on the practice group business development plans and budgets in consultation with the Associate Director of Litigation.
  • Provide direction, manage production, and track success ratio of proposals and RFP responses for the practices.
  • Provide direction, manage execution and track ROI of conference sponsorships, client seminars, and other external events related to the promotion of the practices.
  • In collaboration with the Communications Team, drive awareness/recognition and enhance brand perception of the practices and their lawyers.
  • Drive and support client engagement initiatives for the practices, including legal updates and other thought leadership initiatives; client presentations, meetings and events; and client, industry and competitor research.
  • Participate in the firm’s Key Client program.
  • Support the firm’s Targeted Disputes strategy and initiatives to move it forward.
  • Collaborate with the firm’s Energy and Technology sectors.
  • Manage practice submissions for Chambers, Legal 500, and other major award submissions for the practices and their lawyers.
  • Contribute to the coaching, mentoring and development of Client Development staff members.
  • Other Firmwide and Litigation Departmental projects as assigned.


  • Bachelor's degree required, MBA or J.D. a plus.
  • Five or more years of professional services industry experience, including two or more years of client development or management experience.
  • Experience in developing and executing marketing and business development strategies for Antitrust and Competition Law practices required.
  • Able to work well with a variety of levels within an organization and possess diplomacy, enthusiasm, perseverance, and a sense of humor; experience working on decentralized teams a plus.
  • Strong skills in written/verbal communication, organizational ability, and project management.
  • Should possess solid business acumen and experience in researching and interpreting company data
  • Able to thrive in a fast-paced environment and deal with ambiguity.
  • Strong skills in MS Office software, particularly PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Experience with InterAction a plus; knowledge of web-based legal database systems a plus, particularly Lex Machina and Monitor Suite.
  • Some overtime and travel are required.

Extent of Contact (Within and outside the Firm)

  • Extensive contact with lawyers and staff in all locations at all levels.
  • High degree of contact with the Pricing, Financial Services and Knowledge Services teams.
  • Moderate degree of contact with the Diversity and Inclusion and Professional Development teams.
  • Moderate degree of contact with clients.

Physical Demands

  • Typically limited to light physical effort. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 10 pounds or some standing or walking.
  • Must be able to work at a computer for considerable periods of time.
  • Position requires extensive telephone use.
  • Must be able to lift, squat, kneel and bend.

Working Condition and Environment

  • High-paced, collaborative, and supportive team environment.
  • Must be willing to work additional hours (evenings/weekends) when necessary to meet deadlines.
  • Periodic travel to other Baker Botts locations will be required.
  • Fully vaccinated for COVID-19, subject to accommodation.
  • This role may be hybrid and will require a minimum of three days per week (or at least 60%) present in the office, and up to two days per week (40%) may be performed remotely.
