Job Summary and Responsibilities

State Street’s Securities Finance (SF) division is functionally organized into three main areas – Business Development, Client Management and Trading – in addition to many support and management functions that span the three Securities Finance products: Agency Lending, Enhanced Custody (EC) and Alternative Financing Solutions (AFS). These products allow State Street clients to generate income, facilitate short sales or generate financing through the lending and borrowing of securities. The Agency Lending product is a long-established business and State Street is considered an industry leader in the agency lending space. 

The role resides in the Algorithmic Trading Group (ATG), which is responsible for the distribution and portfolio management of electronic assets across Securities Finance products. Group oversight includes algorithmic trading, asset and portfolio-level pricing, balance sheet optimization and risk management. Within the Algorithmic Trading Group, you will intimately be involved with the Agency Lending product.

Within these areas, ATG designs, analyzes and deploys algorithmic and automated trading strategies to create alpha within a structured and efficient framework. The Group serves as a central hub for Trading and interacts extensively with Technology, Operations, Treasury, Risk, Client Service, Business Development and external clients. Finally, ATG has business oversight with emerging technologies and frequently prototype solutions dealing with Blockchain, Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, etc.

As a member of the team you will have the opportunity to interact with a variety of internal groups. You will be required to perform complex analytical tasks (using structured programming and Excel) and be able to articulate the process and results to a wide audience. Communication and interpersonal skills are a must due to the heavy interactivity of this role with other stakeholders. You will learn all sides of securities lending, financing and the regulatory rules impacting Banks.

Qualifications

• Superior problem solving, analytical and technical skills: experience analyzing, understanding and merging large data sets to uncover correlations and construct algorithmic trading strategies; comfortable with ambiguity and able to make decisions with imperfect and missing data

  Strong modeling and programming experience:

  
  
  
  

  • Experience programing in procedural/object oriented and/or scripting languages: Python (preferred)/Ruby/C++/Java

  
  

  • Mastery of Excel a must; VBA a plus

  
  

  • Statistical modeling and back-testing experience a plus: Pandas(Python)/MATLAB/SAS

  
  

  • Relational database experience a plus: Sybase, Oracle, Access

  
  

  • Experience with Machine Learning and Natural Language Processing a plus

  
  
  
  



• Experience working in fast-paced front office financial markets environment (Prime Brokerage or Agency experience a plus); deeply engaged and comfortable with the markets and trading




• Outstanding communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills; ability to interact professionally with business leaders and technical teams alike




• Extremely flexible with a “do anything” mentality”; creative and willing to challenge current paradigms




• Bachelor’s degree from a technical discipline (Computer Science/Engineering)




• Minimum of 0-2 years of experience
