Overview


Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI), a world-renowned Comprehensive Cancer Center located in the heart of Boston's medical area, is seeking applicants for its 2022 Summer Administrative Internship Program. The goal of this internship is to provide high potential individuals, who demonstrate a unique contribution and commitment to diversity, with the opportunity to further develop their leadership style and analytical skills by working on major initiatives impacting the Institute.

The Corporate Partnerships team in the Division of Philanthropy develops philanthropic relationships with companies to secure support for the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber. The internship will be structured to provide full exposure to the world of corporate philanthropy, with shadowing opportunities across the team. The Undergraduate Rising Senior Intern will create a strong foundational understanding of corporate philanthropy, cause marketing, and corporate community engagement while helping our team to advance our goal of securing $14 million in cash and in-kind support this year. This is an exciting opportunity to take part in the Institute's largest philanthropic effort to date, The Dana-Farber Campaign, an ambitious commitment to raise $2 billion for cancercare and research - and ultimately to Defy Cancer.



Requirements



  • Intern 40 hours/week for 10 weeks from May 31 - August 5, 2022 (100% remote*)

  • Contribute to high visibility projects and major initiatives, ranging from detailed implementation to strategic planning activities

  • Partner with an Executive Sponsor and work directly with senior leadership teams

  • Participate in programming focused on understanding Unconscious Bias, leadership development and networking

  • Present an overview to senior leaders to highlight project accomplishments

  • Work on a number of summer programs, including:

- a national cause marketing partnership with a well-known retailer that involves patient partners and virtual meetings with company representatives

- customer donation programs with national restaurant partners with stewardship and visitation/thank you opportunities

- grant submission support, corporate database projects, and research related to corporate funding opportunities to support research at Dana-Farber

- helping to secure corporate sponsors for Jimmy Fund events and the opportunity to experience some of these events firsthand

* This job is designated as remote. Work may need to be performed onsite (Boston, MA) up to one day per week. Remote work may only be performed from MA, RI, or NH.




Qualifications



  • Experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

  • Self-starter who demonstrates curiosity and enjoys a variety of experiences and is comfortable working in a mostly remote setting

  • Opportunities for in-person meetings, site visits, and Jimmy Fund event participation, the day to day work of this team is managed virtually, using MS Teams and occasionally Zoom

  • Engage with external partners in a digital and in-person environment and has excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work and collaborate with a team

  • Exceptional organizational skills, with the demonstrated ability to drive multiple concurrent projects to completion in a complex, deadline-driven environment

  • Experience with CRM (relationship management databases) such as Salesforce or Blackbaud, preferred

  • Experience with marketing, corporate social responsibility, or fundraising preferred

Compensation for this position will be $16/hour for rising undergraduate seniors and $20/hour for graduate students.
