WATER PRACTICE

Michael Baker International's Water Group provides innovative consulting, planning and engineering solutions for the entire spectrum of the water cycle. We have proven experience in providing a full range of professional services from scientific and technical analysis, concept through design, and construction support services. Protection and management of water resources starts at the watershed level and follows the movement of water through urban and agricultural areas, streams, lakes and reservoirs, water distribution systems, wastewater collection systems, and water/wastewater treatment plants.

DESCRIPTION

Michael Baker International is seeking a motivated Financial Analyst I to join our team. The successful candidate will have experience working under close supervision, to develop and track project spend plans, provide financial analysis, and reporting and scheduling assistance. This position will be an integral member of the Emergency Management and Response group of the Alexandria, Virginia office. As part of this group, the Financial Analyst I will support contracts with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and may be asked to support other contracts as needs arise.

Responsibilities include:


  • Supports project planning efforts, the development and monitoring of schedules, budget/costs, status reports and progress using project management software.
  • Tracks committed and actual costs, supports the development of cost forecasts and the analysis of variance against baselines.
  • Assists the Project Manager in developing and reviewing cost, schedule and budget corrective actions and recovery plans, making sure needed action plans are implemented.
  • Uses software applications to report project data.
  • Performs quality control procedures.
  • Creates client communications, invoices, and cost estimates.

Other essential skills include organizational skills, financial project management skills, including earn value management. The ideal candidate will have an aptitude for accuracy, a strong sense of ownership, and natural communication skills.

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS


  • Minimum of 0-2 years of experience
  • Four-year Bachelor's Degree
  • Ability to obtain a Public Trust Clearance, U.S. Citizenship required due to contract requirements
  • Strong attention to detail and demonstrated ownership and accountability for work
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, proactive communicator and problem-solver
  • Capability to work in a dynamic environment, including a demonstrated willingness to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a wide array of individuals from various backgrounds, including engineers; planners; GIS professionals; federal, tribal, and state government officials; and the public
  • Strong multi-tasking and organizational skills
  • Microsoft Office skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel and SharePoint
  • Solid work ethic and have the drive to be a leader in the company and in the professional community

PREFERRED

  • Experience working with Deltek Cobra
  • Experience with the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and FEMA's Risk Mapping Assessment and Planning (MAP) Program
  • Ability to travel periodically, as needed (less than 20% and once travel restrictions are lifted)
