The position exists to provide project management for MGA staff and volunteers. This indivual works with staff and volunteers (specifically the vTools Committee) to define project goals and objectives, gather and refine requirements, and create functional specifications and related documents for key business processes in IEEE membership and / or geographic activities.
This individual will facilitate requirements-gathering sessions with end users to develop UI mock-ups (story boards). The individual will support customer product and service development and work with IT developers to take the project from paper to production.
The individual will assist in the creation and development of new services such as automating local IEEE Section operations and enhancing existing vTools applications (such as Meetings, Voting, WebInABox, Online Officer reporting, etc.), web portals and other critical pages within the IEEE web presence.
Key Responsibilities
Project Management - Overall
Uses standardized project management methodology and tools to ensure that all major projects have proper management visibility and are managed on time, and within budget requirements reporting and escalating issues as appropriate
Engagement focus: Uses the principle of engagement in their dealings with IEEE members, volunteers, and staff in order to develop an empowered culture that achieves the goals of the Member and Geographic Activities department, and the goals of the IEEE.
vTools Development Management and Support (50%)
Defines project goals, objectives, and project plans for vTools.
Gathers and refines requirements for vTools or volunteer related MGA projects.
Creates functional specifications, related documents
Works with IEEE volunteers and MGA staff to enable project implementation
Coordinates work with external contractors working on vTools application
vTools User Support (20%)
Provides user support and system administration for vTools development and production
Plans for and communicate system outages, upgrades and software releases.
Other MGA Projects (include but not limited to) (20%)
Primary technical support for IEEEXtreme student contest.
Secondary support to Webex/Intercall Project
vTools Architecture Support (10%)
Assists with architecture, design, and implementation of vTools and other MGA applications.
Monitors vTools servers for privacy and security system updates
Education
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in engineering, computer science or other related technical degree area Pref

Must have advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access
Must have working knowledge of Ruby on Rails and / or other open source web application frameworks
Must have solid understanding of web services (SOA)
Ability to communicate and interact positively and effectively with volunteers of all levels
Ability to communicate and interact positively and effectively with staff members at all levels of IEEE
