Overview

VHB's growing Boston, MA office is seeking an entry-level Transportation/Traffic Engineer to join our Transportation Planning & Operations group. The selected candidate will work with a team of transportation planners and engineers on a variety of public, private, and institutional projects within broad cross-section of markets, including municipal, state agencies, higher education, federal lands and aviation.

About the Position

Transportation/Traffic Engineer | Boston, MA

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Working within a team of professionals in developing traffic and transportation planning and engineering solutions for a multitude of transportation and land development projects


• Performing transportation/traffic impact studies and transportation planning analyses


• Conducting roadway safety studies


• Researching and interpreting transportation data, Census and community statistics, and demographics


• Preparing written planning documents, summarizing information in tabular and graphical formats, and assembling reports


• Conducting traffic data collection and tabulation


• Performing intersection and roadway level-of-service analyses


• Development, analysis, and evaluation of transportation improvements


• Design of traffic control devices


• Design of multimodal streets and intersections

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

• Entry-level knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures in civil engineering


• Familiarity with industry-standard software design and analysis systems (e.g., CAD, GIS, traffic simulation) preferred


• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite


• Team-oriented with an ability to perform multiple tasks independently in a timely manner and collaborate effectively and positively with coworkers


• Self-motivated, highly organized, and detail oriented


• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills


• Ability to think critically and creatively in solving problems and devising approaches

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related field


• 0-3 years of professional civil/transportation engineering/planning experience


• Relevant co-op/internship experience a plus


• Experience with AutoCAD, Synchro, and HCS a plus

Work Environment

• Requires ability to work in a busy office environment with significant computer use


• May require outdoor work in varying weather conditions and terrains, as well as overnight travel in support of projects in varying locations
