We're actively seeking a talented Actuarial Analyst to join our VA Risk Management team in Newport Beach, CA. This role can be on-site or work in a hybrid setting from either the Newport Beach or Omaha location.

As an Actuarial Analyst, you'll play a key role in Pacific Life's growth and long-term success by supporting the variable annuity risk management economic projections and by helping build the variable annuity framework towards a desired future state. You will fill a new role that sits on a team of eleven people in the Retirement Solutions Division. Your colleagues will include risk management actuaries of various levels and designations.

How you will make an impact:


  • Support various assigned VA risk management responsibilities, including assessment of potential risk mitigation approaches, quantitative/financial modeling and/or analysis, and financial projections.

  • Support quarterly Embedded Value (EV) and Economic Capital (EC) responsibilities, including modeling, creation of reports, analysis and explanation of results.

  • Support VA framework build for the future state including the conversion to modeling in Prophet, data warehouse in Snowflake, framework changes with Long Duration Targeted Improvements (LDTI), and capital dashboard build utilizing Tableau

  • Participate in complex cross-functional projects and initiatives in a dynamic business environment. Effectively communicate complex financial concepts to colleagues and management.

  • Assist with the development, maintenance, and documentation of financial models and modeling processes in support of the Division's evolving VA risk management needs. Identify areas of potential improvements and recommend/implement solutions with emphasis on innovation, efficiency, and governance.

  • Cross training within the team members for seamless transition.

  • Assist with miscellaneous projects as assigned.



The experience you will bring:


  • Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Economics, Finance, Actuarial Science, Statistics, or related degree

  • May have completed one or more SOA exams towards the ASA designation

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel

  • Excellent communication both written and verbal


What will make you stand out:


  • Working experience in an actuarial capacity, including internships, a plus

  • Experience with actuarial modeling software such as MoSes, Prophet or MG-ALFA preferred

  • Coding experience with R, Python, etc. helpful

  • Experience with programs such as Snowflake and/or Tableau a plus
