GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Division Controller is responsible for leading the accounting department in the South Division. The Controller will provide financial leadership/guidance and internal control/SOX oversight ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting/analysis to Division, Region and Corporate management. This role also has indirect responsibility for division shared services (includes accounts payable & cash application functions). This will require a seasoned professional who is technically knowledgeable and proficient, possesses good analytical skills, experienced in improving systems and processes and, most importantly, is able to effectively lead and manage a large team. The position requires the ability to effectively communicate and interact with all levels within the Division/Regions, other Airgas entities, the corporate team of Airgas, and external 3rd parties including customers, auditors, vendors, etc.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Ensure the accuracy, integrity and timeliness of the Division/Region financial statements and other information reported to internal and external users.

* Manage accurate financial and statistical close processes including general ledger account reconciliations and other analyses within established timelines.

* Proactively, and/or as requested, develop and direct the preparation and communication of ad hoc accounting reports and analysis.

* Instill financial disciplines within the Division/Regions which accurately capture ongoing activities and monitor performance against plan.

* Provide financial guidance to the Region's management and financial leadership teams.

* Develop and maintain internal accounting controls consistent with company requirements and Sarbanes-Oxley.

* Ensure controls and processes are in place to safeguard company assets

* Manage proper evaluation and assignment of sales taxability ensuring customers are taxed properly, exemptions are properly documented, customer tax disputes are resolved quickly and use tax is properly applied.

* Determine the economic and strategic feasibility of acquisition candidates, and directing the due diligence process and coordination of acquisition integration processes.

* Build strong working relationships with Division and Region management teams.

* Ensure clear and timely communication of and compliance with company financial policies and procedures. Engage appropriate management to assist in remediating problems and implementing corrective actions.

* Develop the Division finance organization through goal-setting, evaluations, positive feedback, discipline, and on-going coaching ensuring activities are performed within department and company policy.

* Continuously identify and develop people, process and system improvements to maximize the efficiency and effectiveness of the department in serving the Sales organization and the end customer. Establish appropriate metrics to measure and monitor performance.

* Other duties as assigned.



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Education:

* Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field.

* CPA and/or MBA in Finance/Accounting strongly preferred.

Required Length & Type of Experience:

* Minimum of ten years financial reporting / financial management experience in positions of increasing responsibility.

* Management experience with solid leadership qualities including team management and people development skills.

* Working knowledge and experience with large Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, SAP strongly preferred.

* Skilled project management, staff mentoring and employee development skills required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

* The Controller will have established a proven track record of success in prior senior accounting roles.

* To be successful, the Controller must have strong technical accounting experience, knowledge, and understanding of GAAP, substantial management responsibility and experience leading and managing multiple financial functions concurrently.

* The Controller must have a strong "customer service" mindset and demonstrate leadership skills required to drive continuous process improvement.

* Skilled at organizational team-building and people skills. The ability to work and navigate within a complex matrixed organization.

* Able to demonstrate strong leadership skills and to assume increasing responsibilities in a rapidly-changing environment.

* Ability to understand the impact of new technologies on processes and costs and implement appropriate solutions and experience integrating new technologies into day-to-day operations.

* Able to establish and coordinate direction for the multiple departments reporting into the Controller in coordination with other BSC leads.

* 'Working Manager' leadership style is expected of the Controller in order to engage in the details of managing the operation and providing guidance.

* Strong affinity for a 'follow-up/follow-through' management style and proactive communicator keeping his supervisors, other leaders and his team updated.

* Ability to manage multiple priorities between divisional, local and corporate management and demands.
