Position Title: Counter Sales / Delivery Driver - Class B


  • Waukegan

  • Monday - Friday = Day Shift - Home Every Night

    • Airgas operates a modern and efficient fleet. Most vehicles are under 6 years old and equipped with driver-friendly technology, such as On Board Computers, collision avoidance technology, latest camera technology and GPS navigation.



How will you CONTRIBUTE and GROW?

As the "face of Airgas", the Counter Sales Associate/Delivery Driver is responsible for the safe and orderly stocking, storing, and labeling of all incoming materials and supplies at the location's warehouse for future redistribution. This position will additionally be responsible for the picking, packing and distribution of materials and supplies for delivery via outside carriers or local Airgas drivers to the customer's location. Additionally, this position will be responsible for safely and efficiently delivering compressed gas cylinders to local and regional business customers from an Airgas branch or plant location using a company provided truck. This position loads, unloads, delivers, and returns compressed gas cylinders while frequently interacting with Airgas customers.

Counter Sales responsibilities:


  • Solicits sales from walk-in and telephone call-in customers assisting customers with identification of product needs and locating merchandise.

  • Accurately completes and files all required paperwork on a timely basis. Documents sales, quotes or other information.

  • Enters sales & quote data into the computer and researches information for customers using the computer system.

  • Receives payment for merchandise or services sold and enters sale into the computer. Responsible for payments received and adhering to all administrative and accounting related procedures.

  • Wraps and bags purchases and helps customers load merchandise into their vehicles.

  • Provides warehouse support for shipping & receiving, inventory stocking, cleaning, labeling, or other tasks.

  • Restocks store merchandise as needed. Arranges stock on shelves or racks in sales area and keeps merchandise in order. Marks or tickets merchandise.

  • Follows all safety procedures. Uses established safety procedures for cylinder handling during exchanges and storage of cylinders.

  • Maintains showroom cleanliness by procedures set forth by management.

  • Maintains current price documentation and product literature as it becomes available. Keeps product knowledge current.

  • Other duties and projects as assigned.

Driver Responsibilities:


  • Safely loads, delivers and unloads cylinders containing compressed gases to customer's place of business. Delivers compressed gas cylinders to external and internal customer sites. Records deliveries and pick-ups on a load manifest and obtains signatures from customers for receipt purposes. Collects empty cylinders or rejected or unsold merchandise. Returns empty cylinders to either a plant or branch location for refilling.

  • Establishes and maintains good customer relations. Listens to and helps resolve service inquiries and complaints.

  • Provides timely communication back to manager or to the customer's assigned Airgas sales associate regarding any changes or issues experienced by the customer.

  • Performs cylinder inspections per operating procedures.

  • Maintains load manifests and all required vehicle documents ensuring they are properly completed and balanced with truck counts and shipping documents before and after deliveries. Ensures that vehicle manifests, labeling and load are in compliance with regulatory guidelines such as those pertaining to the Department of Transportation (DOT), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), Food & Drug Administration (FDA), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and Airgas safety standards (SAFECOR).

  • Performs pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections documenting deficiencies & ensures all safety items are in good working order.

  • Ensures all safety rules are strictly observed & any accidents or injuries are promptly reported to management.

  • Operates a pallet jack, forklift & other warehouse equipment.

  • Works in warehouse or on dock as needed.


Qualifications

Are you a MATCH?


  • HS Diploma or equivalent preferred.

  • Must be 21 years old

  • Valid Class B Commercial Driver's License.

  • Valid USDOT Medical Examiner's Certificate (card).

  • Hazmat Endorsement (H or X Endorsement).

  • Ability to operate a vehicle with an air brake system (no air brake restrictions on CDL).

  • May consider individuals with the ability to acquire a Hazmat Endorsement or the skill to operate air brake systems as a condition of employment.

  • Must have one (1) year of prior Class A or B professional driving experience within the last five (5)

  • Must have a clean driving record to include no more than two (2) convictions; OR two (2) at-fault accidents in the last 3 years; OR no more than a combination of one (1) conviction and one (1) at-fault accidents in the last 3 years.

  • In lieu of experience, may consider accepting a diploma from an accredited driving school or a combination of driving and prior Airgas specific experience.

  • Minimum of 2 years of previous product, warehouse and/or sales related experience and/or training (or equivalent combination of education and experience).

  • Basic PC knowledge to include familiarity with onboard computers/telematics and experience with SAP preferred.

  • Excellent customer service skills.

  • Prior experience operating a forklift or other material handling equipment preferred

  • Regularly required to transport and move 60 pounds with or without the use of a hand truck for distances up to 25 feet. For transporting any weight 25 feet or beyond, requires the use of a hand truck (or the aid of some alternate material handling equipment). Employee may occasionally be required to transport and move up to 800 pounds with the use of material handling equipment

  • Lives by Airgas safety programs, OSHA, and all related rules, regulations, procedures which are applicable to this position's responsibilities.
