Summary
Drives effort to ensure desired reliability and maintainability of equipment, processes and safety systems. Promotes and supports the implementation of reliability initiatives in the context of the Maintenance Excellence Process (MEP). Identify and manage risks that could adversely affect plant reliability and operations. This broad primary role includes life cycle asset and risk management for critical plant equipment. Works under general supervision with specified policies, objectives and guidelines. Refers to supervisor for clarification or interpretation of policy. Exercises direct supervision of Plant Reliability Engineer I and MDE (Manufacturing Development Engineers) when applicable. Exercises direct supervision of PdM consultants and contractors. Potential to exercise direct supervision of plant PdM and PM technicians.
Responsibilities
Responsible for managing, monitoring and optimizing reliability aspects of the Maintenance Excellence Process (MEP) that includes:
Condition based monitoring preventive maintenance tasks
Management of predictive maintenance (PdM) and other non-destructive testing (NDT) methodologies designed to identify equipment degradation
Coordination of contract PdM services as needed
Generates exception/anomaly reports and makes corrective action recommendations
Evaluates and optimizes preventive maintenance (PM) tasks
Performs Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for equipment failures
Determines failure mode, cause and effects (5 Y analysis)
Develops engineering solutions to minimize repetitive failures for all mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems that may adversely affect plant reliability and operations
Generates RCA reprts that recommend solutions to resolve failures and address future preventive, predictive practices
Develops a risk management plan that will anticipate reliability related risks that could adversely impact plant operations
Reviews Key Performance Indicators (KPI) to measure and analyze the plant reliability processes
Provides technical support to production and maintenance technicians
Prepares CAPEX documents to address reliability related expenditures
Prepares cost avoidance reports for PdM findings
Facilitates the Bad Actors process
Performs Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) data analysis
Facilitates team approach in determining solutions to Bad Actors
Generates a reports, outlining a plan of action and resolution for Bad Actors
Analyzes on-line condition monitoring data and initiates the creation of work orders into the work flow process based on risk analysis
Provides direct oversight of projects and contract labor during plant annual maintenance periods
Develops PM and PdM tasks for newly installed equipment
Supervisory responsibilities of plant PdM technicians (3-5 direct reports)
Conducts safety meetings and inspections of the work area on a regular basis to ensure compliance with safety and environmental requirements.
Coordinates and schedules predictive maintenance activities and tasks
Solicits feedback and ideas from PdM technicians to improve efficiencies and effectiveness of predictive maintenance activities and tasks
Provides guidance, coaching, motivation, training and development to direct reports
Maintains records of timesheets, attendance and Paid Time Off (PTO) and ensure compliance of company policies of each
Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Extensive knowledge of reliability practices and procedures as they relate to heavy industrial machinery and/or cement manufacturing.
Knowledge of reliability principles including failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA), vibration analysis, lubrication and tribology, thermography, etc.
Knowledge of work flow management and the application of computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) in the improvement of equipment and facility reliability.
Analytical skills and an understanding of statistical methods required to analyze the effectiveness and use of KPIs and PdM data.
Other skills required include good organization, verbal and written communication, decision making and problem solving.
Knowledge of keyboarding and PC software applications such as the Microsoft Suite in the performance of their work.
Education
B.S. in Electrical, Mechanical, or Reliability Engineering, or related technical fields preferred. Professional designation or advanced degrees in an area related to reliability are highly desired.
Experience
At least 3 years’ experience in related process industries with experience in the support of maintenance work processes, inventory, failure analysis, reliability, continuous improvement and CMMS.
Participation in Societies for Maintenance and Reliability Professionals and Life Cycle Engineering preferred.
