To engage the imagination of children and their families through interactive exhibits, programs, and resources while creating an excitement for lifelong learning and the enrichment of lives.

The Amazeum facility includes approximately 50,000 square feet of indoor space and one acre of outdoor exhibition and activity space. The exhibits and programs are multidisciplinary based on STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics) concepts to further formal educational goals in a high-quality informal learning environment. The museum is located at the intersection of Museum Way and J Street in Bentonville, AR.

Position Summary:

The Retail Store Specialist (RSS) will report directly to the Retail Store Coordinator (RSC). This position will support the RSC as needed in addition to responsibilities listed below.

The RSS requires previously demonstrated excellence in guest service skills. Candidates should have the ability to take the initiative and prioritize multiple competing tasks; excellent time management skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment supporting the store sales, merchandising, and inventory control.

Essential Functions

• Models best practice in Curiosity Corner by greeting and assisting all museum guests; effectively handling questions, sales, service, and payments for all products


• Become a product expert of merchandise carried in store. Actively explore and learn about merchandise carried in the store, and be readily available to share product information with guests and other team members


• In collaboration with the RSC, aid in data classification and management within Shopify, i.e. product classification, collection creation, etc

• Assist in inventory management, including checking in, pricing, storage of all merchandise, and semi-annual physical inventory counts/reconciliations


• In collaboration with the RSC, create and deliver training sessions for the GSA team on best practices of working in the store


• Take initiative to learn about new products and museum-wide events on a regular basis. Assist in aligning store merchandising with special programming and exhibits in the museum


• Respond knowledgeably to guest questions about the Amazeum and Curiosity Corner

• Be present on the floor as needed with an eye for assisting and developing team on store products


• Maintain appropriate records concerning cash handling, cash drawer management, and daily accounting procedures


• Become a subject matter expert of Shopify and Stocky systems


• Represents the Amazeum in a professional manner at all times including adherence to department standards.


• Work extended schedule during peak periods as needed.


• Perform additional duties as required.

Qualifications:

• Associates degree from an accredited junior college or university OR minimum 2 years of experience working in hospitality, retail or customer-focused environment;

• In regard to education and experience, an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience may satisfy the minimum requirements.


• Previous retail experience - preferred.

This position requires the ability to:

• Stand and walk for a minimum of two hours without a break.


• Climb stairs, bending and stretching, and physical stamina to lift a minimum of 25 pounds unassisted.


• Operate computer and office equipment with good eye/hand coordination


• Function with visual acuity to review written materials, observe large crowds and provide detailed descriptions as necessary.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to move independently within museum office and spaces. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate, however, it can be moderate to loud during peak periods. Evening and night work hours required as needed.
